Not really sure as to why, but I would put the macros back in. They will help clean up the water.

The power head pointing at the surface was a good move. I tend to over react when I see a small problem and have learned to change a little at a time and sit back and let things work themselves out.

Often you do need to act and change things, but sometimes a small change and some patience is the key to success.

I would keep the power head aimed at the surface and change out any filter pads or socks and change the media(carbon or whatever you may be running). Also put back in the macros if you can.

It's a lovely JBJ.

What lighting type is running? If it's MH could the tank be getting too hot?

c_healy recommendations of cleaning the media seems like a good place to start too.

Thanks, it has a Reefbreeders Value LED fixture on it so it's not a heat issue.

LOL there is no filters, just a Koralia 2 and a heater, that's all!

Sounds pretty much like mine, but I keep sponge and carbon in the back.

I know I have to clean my display power head about once a month of all the algae that tends to limit the efficiency. I also cleaned the two PH in the back because they got pretty gucked up after a while.

did you get past this hump? just curious. almost wonder if it was an o2 level issue? i worry about that in my jbj nano, with so much "stuff" in there and so little water volume/surface area. the redirction of the korallia to ripple the surface would have been a move in the right direction, if that was the issue.

an update is overdue anyway, it seems. :)

The tank crashed... It's still running but it looks horrible now. Salinity spiked...

So sorry to hear. I too recently went through a crash and is not a great feeling but it's a great time to take advantage and change whatever you did not like in your tank the first time around. I am using this to be able to change my scape and get rid of the mushroom infestation I had going. From now on, the only shroom I will ever get are ricordias.

Figured I'd give a final update, I took this tank down last night. I just don't have time to keep up with it anymore.
