So RedSea replaced a 350 that came in cracked. Awesome.. I put the stand together last night and found that the front edge of one of the side panels was shorter than its counter part (5/64th to be exact. Didn't seem like a deal breaker until I mounted the door on that side and it wouldn't close correctly.... Then I put a precision rule to the panel - its bowed ;(

I'm not knocking on RedSea - I have a 450/525/750 and two 250 cabinets. Never had single issue - great tanks - and as a manufacturer myself I certainly understand that this can go wrong from time to time BUT DANG IT! - End of rant.

Picked up the red sea media cup. I dont want to cut filter pads for it. What are you guys using as floss? I want to be able to pull it out and toss new in without cutting...

Yeah, I did the cutting thing and the floss would just last a couple of hours before getting clogged. I bought a rectangle block of the black sponge and cut out 3 round blocks of each and used those. They’ll last about 3-5 days and get rinsed. I have about 9 of them now for easy exchanges.

No, I certainly will not be using the stand. Not sure how they managed this lol. I contacted RS via the vendor so it should be interesting to see how they handle it. If they don't replace the stand I have a bunch of 80/20 profile left over from a prototype type CNC router we hare considering manufacturing as well as several sheets of 3/4" Baltic birch and a sheet of 3/4 zebra wood plywood - so either of a new plywood cabinet or a 80/20 frame with a Corian skin. Wouldn't mind replacing the RS through bulkhead plate with standard 1" bulkheads at the same time.

sounds like you have the material to make a way better stand anyhow!

just like their tanks, their sumps seem to be different measurements as well. no quality control with rs apparently.

so.....

wondering if someone(s) could help me out. i'm trying to figure out all the different versions of sumps for each tank size and what the differences are. thanks!

I know the 250 has had at least 3 different versions to their sumps but I don't know the measurement of any I bought a custom sump for my 250 and threw away my stock sump because no one locally was interested, I'm running out of storage, and it was too heavy to ship.

Reefer nano... front to back is dead on. Do i need to shim this? Also, if i grab the front and back i can ever soo slightly rock the tank.

you don’t need to shim for that amount, but i would be concerned with the rocking.

Is this on carpet? Once it's setup, filled with water, rock and equipment it shouldn't rock as much.

Are you sure that its level enough? It only rocks on the diagonal in one direction. And im only using the word rock because im not sure what else to call it. Basically its just that i can shake it and vibrate it. Its not lifting a foot or anything... should it be rock solid when its empty?

EDIT: i slid a credit card under one of the feet and now its not rocking. Can i leave that card in place or do i need to use something else?

Nope, its on hardwood. I was thinking of filling it with tap water just to see if it settles...

so it was the stand that wasn’t level, and not the tank itself?

Well i honestly think its my floor thats not level as everything on that same wall has the same slight slope. But the rocking of the stand could be one of those feet being slightly shorter.

Rocking like rocking from leg to leg like an old bar table?
That I would shim or find out why
Or is it more of a sway like the stand flexes a little when bumped?

i would use a thin composite shim.
