It’s a NiCrew Hyper Reef 30watt. In that picture, I had it mounted in the stock hood which I modified. It’s now hanging and I went without a top.

If I wasn’t worried my fish would be covered in dog fur, I’d go this route! Very sleek, I notice the modified “honeycomb” as well. :)

I also have the RO Buddy from Amazon. Takes forever to fill a five gallon jug. Is there a Petco near you? They sell 5 gallon boxes of sea water. Maybe you can send someone to pick up a few for you.
Hang in there. We WILL get past this virus and get back to normal some day!
We do have several stores nearby that sell it, its just unfortunately way out of my price range as my job was also a covid victim :( but I've got salt and RO buddy resin still going strong for now so it should be all right *fingers crossed!* im not sick. I'm not hungry. And I'm not homeless. So some ugly tank syndrome is all right I reckon. You stay strong too! And thank you for the encouragement and ideas :)

We have 3 cats. 2 are very lazy but one shows a real interest in the fish. When we go out and when we go to bed, the stock lid gets set on top. I could just see him taking “the plunge” some day.
I put vinyl wrap over the honeycomb so I don’t see the water line.

Yeah I hear eventually the honeycomb will scrape off but until then, I’ve left it because I know where my water line should be on the honeycomb. My husky loves our tank. She’s very prey driven and will sit with her nose to the glass tracking my clowns. I went to ace and had an acrylic lid cut which I drilled holes for gas exchange so the tank keeps a topless look. It works really well (warped slightly over time but for 10$ i can’t complain.

Thank you again! I've been thinking about low tech planting my EVO since our water here is actually great for fresh water other than dechlorination. Id have my tank back and a betta friend back, and itd be cheaper/easier on the upkeep. But then again, no time to care for my 3 reefs so.... prob a bad idea lol. But that IS how I found this thread which has made me both a little bittersweet nostalgic but also very happy and heartened. So. Thank you for that!

I like your light mount. I had the evo light hanging from the ceiling! Haha but another tank I hung with a shelf and the light suspended underneath from the brackets. Nice buck!

I noticed in your pictures that you had the light hanging.
You should set it up for a Betta.
This is my wife’s home office Betta setup. He’s a pretty spoiled little fish!

I had the Spec V as a betta tank too! And then I set it up as a nano reef at my office which ugh. Like, never again. Much prefer the betta! But that's why I figured the Evo would be a very nice set up for one :) love your wife's tank. Bettas are my fresh water passion!

Been following the thread for quite a while now, and have some questions if anyone is still around! Here's my current setup:

inTank Basket in Chamber 1: Filter Floss on top and middle shelf, Purigen below
Chamber 2: 100w Heater (rarely comes on) / inTank Plug in chamber wall
Chamber 3: Sicce Syncra 0.5

Stock Lighting
Sun-Sun JVP-110 Powerhead
3-D Printed Cover for Feeder Door (Diamond Goby would be dead otherwise)
Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates: 0ppm
Salinity: 1.025

I'm going to add Seachem Matrix Carbon to the 2nd shelf in the 1st chamber soon. Would prefer to keep the tank lighting stock, which seems to be doing fine right now. I'm not quite sure how people have Nitrates in their tank, I've owned numerous tanks and never have seen nitrate levels anything above 0, unless I fail to do water changes for a long time, but I think this is a good thing overall.

Would appreciate some input in relation to adding more Bio Filtration media such as MarinePure Gems? I would like to add something like that in the 2nd chamber, but am afraid of them becoming detritus/nitrate factories. What is the best way to use a product like that? In addition, has anyone had luck with a blue LED strip to go with the stock lights? Could use a suggestion, and a suggestion on attaching them as well...also, will it increase algae growth at all?

Lastly, so far I have NOT been able to keep GSP in this tank. I have no idea why. I see folks with stock lights and GSP all over the place. I really want a colony on it's own rock...I like the look.

Thanks in advance!!

The only thing on this tank....
I think need to add a standard reactor for chaeto algae.. or upgrade it with a sump and another skimmer... but till now, it looks pretty good my tank !!!
What kind of advices can you give me?
Suggestions are welcome in...
Another thing, I runn white lights only for a 4 hours per day.
Mostly I'm running the blue light. So I think I will upgrade the lighting.. But till now, is working very nicely all the tank.

Hey guys,

New Fluval Evo 13.5 owner here! 1st week was cycling with 10lbs of live rock + bio-spira. It's now my 2nd week and added some livestock.

I don't see a lot of evap, how much water should I top off manually per day?

Here's the pic
evo.jpg

mods:
added hydor koralia 240gph
changed default carbon to chemi-pure elite
added aquatic life protein skimmer

fish: 3
2 clownfish
1 firefish

cuc: 3
1 snail
2 hermit crabs

corals: (mostly frags beside 1 colony)
1 white hammer (colony)
1 ricordea mushroom
1 red and green war
1 zoa green
1 zoa red
1 kenya tree
1 gsp
1 duncan

I think overall I spent almost $820 for everything including test kits, etc. but I can't wait for frags to grow and mature!
That maroon clown will make quick work of your fingers when it matures!

Finally jumped back in after 5+ year hiatus -mostly FOWLR setups in the past.

Planning on keeping the Evo stock for now.

Used about 15lbs of live Fiji pink sand.

Old dried out live rock has been curing in a tub for about 4 weeks. I had some nicer bigger pieces but didn’t end up using them - tank still feels like I have too much in it.

let’s see if I can attach some pics. still a little cloudy from the sand storm.

My 2 year old tank that was a victim to covid (I am high risk and getting water has proven incredibly difficult. After a faulty RO situation at my LFS causing a massive nutrient spike, I just couldn't get a handle on it). Moved everyone to my other 3 tanks but really want to rebuild my baby. Here she was in all her glory.

@PicosReef I hope you're healthy and okay. That was a gorgeous tank!
