SpectraPure Silica Buster alternative?

Is there an alternative to a silica buster cartridge? The price has gone up considerably and it's just too much for me now. I do consistently test for silicates in my RO via ATI ICP, so I do like to run them. Is there an alternative out there, for removing silicates from product water?

Could using GFO at the end of production do much the same thing?
