Does anyone have an SPS tank without overflow. A friend of mine bought a 75g RR and now due to space restrictions he hadn't thought about, is thinking of trading it in for a 40 breeder or 46 bowfront. He's dead set against a hang on back overflow and just wants to keep the tank as simple as he can with biowheel filtration and a nano sized skimmer.

I just want to see some pictures of what he might be able to get away with with a simple setup.

im pretty sure Kraylen's is a 55g sumpless and looks gorgeous and his SPS looks great. He has a thread on here about his tank somewhere.

Anything is possible. This is my problem with all the must have items. Its all about nutrient export and nutrient import.

Ive got a 58g SPS tank with a nice HOB skimmer, Magnum HOB filter with micron and another Magnum HOB with carbon in it. You have to be hard core about water changes but its do able.

Don't put a biowheel filter on a reef tank......

yup it can be done.. Kraylen has a pimpin set up with some dandy corals... Cody, why not convince him to drill it though.. it will be way cleaner then having everything HOB.. C2C would be nice IMO.

Keep in mind that most hang on the back skimmers on the market is garbage... There are a coupel that have come out more recently that are decent, but they'll never compare to a good in sump skimmer.

I would just drill it and have a sump. I sure it can be done without but I sure it would be alot more work

I tried talking him into drilling it, but along with the overflow he doesn't want a sump. He doesn't really get it. He thinks since his 29g bowfront looks awesome with LPS he can do the same with SPS. If he can thats great but I keep trying to tell him how much easier things could be.
