So rather than slowly pull away over time, this was a one-time 'event' where the act of rubbing along the glass tore off a piece of the silicone? And now there is a small silicone hollow divot?

Yes exactly that
This really shouldn’t be possible!

how old is this tank? I’ve only ever had that happen on a tank I assembled literally one day before, and the cavity was in silicone that still hadn’t hardened as I was cutting away excess….

Hmm… I’m not familiar with this brand…

Well, it’s a relatively small system at 90 liters (24 gallons)… and, based on the manufacturers photos, vs. yours… I’d say you have <2mm of depth gouged out of that seam!

The aquarium glass thickness calculator I typically use (Omni calculator) calls for 6mm glass for these tank dimensions, so we can assume >1/3 of the joint is compromised…

I’d say continue to run the tank, but mark the glass as viewed in the photo with a thin pen/sharpie around the gouge perimeter… — this gives you a visual reference of wether or not the gouge starts to become wider or deeper into the seam over time, indicating that the seam is starting to peel apart!
