Temperature opinions, (over analyzing?)

Hey, everyone. I wanted to find out what everyone thinks is the optimal temperature to keep our reefs at. I keep mine 76-78 roughly, but wondered what other people think. I was dorking around on the internet last night and I came across a thread where someone was suggesting that it is better for the inhabitants of our tanks if they were to come from the same climate and we keep the temperature of the aquarium at that climate that they like. for example some coral may come from a colder water climate so we keep that tank around 72, and other coral may come from a warm water climate so we would keep the tank in the low to mid 80s. I had never thought of this before, and wondered if others were doing anything similar. I recently set up a new 60 gallon cube, and have a lot of stocking to do, so I am throwing out the idea to get opinions and see what others are doing. I currently keep it at 76-78 like I said, I had a bad experience once keeping it around 80.

Anyways that is probably to much to read, and I am probably just over analyzing it all anyways, but I think it is interesting.

Corals will adapt to your tank parameters. My temp swings from 76-82 with no problem. Stability is key, even if its a 6 degree swing. Only noticed my corals start to stress once i hit about 84-86

I live in the south and I have never had a problem and I keep my tank between 74-76 during the winter and 78-81 during the summer. I do not run a chiller during the summer. I use a few fans but that is about it. Two fans in the canopy and one in the sump during the summer.

I prefer to keep my mixed reef between 79F and 81F daily. I try to keep the temperature swing to about 1.5 degrees in a 24 hour period.

i keep mine at 80deg, have done this for the last 10years. During summer it swings from 80 - 83deg (never an issue). in winter it pretty much stays at 80deg.

Mine are both hitting 77-79 in summer and both are currently going 75-77 in winter.

Keep it stable; that's the key to a happy aquarium.

I've heard a higher temp will cause stronger growth.

Mine runs from 81-83 all year round.

78-80 in the winter and up to 84 in the summer. I just use fans and no chiller. Never had any issue with those ranges.
