A couple late night photos, I’ll have a full update tomorrow after the water change with updated photos of hopefully everyone… the griessingeri may be a later photo though.

and just because I figured not everything has to be perfect, the one photo that refused to focus. Guess the fish (Relatively easy to guess actually).

Well, as promised!
There’s not much to update on at all, however I am doing a project and so tried to find as many dead drags as I could. I succeeded in that and found a few nice ones over both tanks. The two montis and the white acro came from this tank, I do believe it was a Joker Staghorn Acro, Montipora setosa and a Montipora digitata. the other three are an unknown Acropora species, the skeleton of a Joker Torch, and a Frogspawn.

Anyway, here’s an FTS of the nano. The hammer isn’t quite so happy - Possibly due to how I can’t find the space for him where the clam isn’t going to be touched and he doesn’t fall over.

And a couple hitchhikers in the tank. The top photo is a couple groups of Colonial Hydroids. And the second photo is of a bivalve of some sort, I want to say it’s a clam species.

A couple coral photos, the first is my Hammer Coral and these photos were taken under bluer whites so please excuse some being blued out. The second photo is my oldest Acropora, presumed to be a Purple Slimer. The third is one of the newer acros, which I think is a milli. The fourth is my bottle brush growing acro (I don’t know what it is in other words). And the last one is my 4th and final acro for now (Again I dont

This is the last thing I’d hope to wake up to. Does anyone know if this damages the clam? The frag must’ve been knocked off in the night at some point - I attempted to get the coral out but he wasn’t having it.

Well, I forgot to update on this however once I got back home I checked on the tank and the coral and clam were appart. Absolutely fine!
The tank is suffering a small bit though (Not in the danger zone YET). Yesterday we had a rather hot day (26-27 at its hottest). The tank hit 27.8/.9 degrees C yesterday so I left it over night with a sealed bag of ice to cool down and it’s still 27 degrees.
Hopefully a water change can fix it and lower the temperature just enough.

Definitely going to try find a fan later today if the water change doesn’t do it :)
I’ll also get a full update out when the WC is done!

Been a while since I’ve done an update, purely due to how I caught covid again. Finally began to recover from it though so I’ll try get photos of everyone tomorrow when lights are white again. For now here’s an older FTS from this week.
Decided that the place where the tank is was getting enough shade and light to try block some of the sun by using a peace Lily to try slow the film algae outbreak. So far it’s working :)

And then a couple photos of the wrasses :)

Hope you're feeling better soon! Everything looks good, as usual
I’m glad it all looks great haha, the tank went without a water change for around 12 days and some coral pieces began to look bad (Temperatures we’re rising and lowering which makes me think the salinity was doing the same).

Wait, do you think temperature affects salinity? For example, your tank is not evaporating at all but the temp swings, does that imply the salinity also swings?

I have found that temperature will affect the salinity even when topped-off. I’ve also tested it in a bucket, when the water is cold the salinity reads differently to when it’s warmer. I’ll try get photos of it next time I need raise the salinity of the water.

Temperature only effects the reading of the salinity testers. The real salinity doesn’t actually change with temperature. So if your temperature is fluctuating, that doesn’t mean your salinity is also.

That being said, warm temps can definitely hurt corals. Especially if it spikes all of a sudden. Water changes don’t actually fix temperature issues (the temp will equilibriate back to the baseline pretty quick). I’m not sure if I already suggested a fan to you?

Yeah, the fan worked a treat, decided to go for a larger one so it would keep the upstairs cool along with the tank.

Interesting that the temperature effects the salinity testers though, I had no idea that was what caused the reading.

Well, it’s been a while since I spotted the Griessinger Goby. Usually he’s out for a while and I’ll spot him Atleast once a week if not several times a week.
I’ll keep an eye out for him however I do think he reached his lifespan as I remember reading about how this specific genus usually only live a year. Seems most of my gobies are starting to age and get to that point where they’re close to or at the end of their life span.

Hopefully I’m wrong though, I’m going to keep an eye out for him and hope that he isn’t at the end of his lifespan however I know that he has been in captivity since June 6th 2021. I have my fingers crossed however I’m not overly hopeful.
Last time I saw him I believe was June 11th, or Atleast that’s the last photo I’ve found of him unfortunately.

Well, I figured we’d start with the bad news so this post could end with good news :)
The bad news is I’m unsure whether I’ve lost the Stylo or not due to the heatwave. I definitely lost Atleast one SPS though, the yellow acro I got a few weeks back. I may have lost the bottle brush however I’m unsure about that one as well. The big pushing factor I believe was the heatwave and the way i had salinity swings due to evaporation occurring much faster. As for the bottle brush it could also be due to one of the fish constantly throwing it off a rock.

For the good news, I got some more polyp extension out of the Pink Milli which makes me believe the green is actually the colour of the coral. My second avro is still alive and I believe thriving (Although I did knock it off whilst sorting out the other coral in the tank so I’ve left it on a rock so I can sort it out during the water change tomorrow).
Also, the fish are all looking nice and healthy still, there’s just a few in the photos as not everyone was up for the camera.

Also, I still have the green mushroom however he was getting rather large so I moved him into my 4’ tank. I’ll get photos of him tomorrow as well as currently he seems rather upset. Well either that or he finally attached to a rock after fighting me to not doing so.

Living and learning, we all do it! One time I cranked up the heat on purpose in the coral QT and saw a few corals lose tissues almost by the next day. Then I learned the importance of maintaining proper temperatures at all times.

Better to learn now, than later when you have full colonies. :)

That’s very true! I’ve now got Atleast 3 ice packs in the fridge at a time as I doubt that’s going to be out last heatwave and it’ll most likely get much worse in August through to September.
