Beautiful macro tanks. Looking to start my own up here in a month or so. Quick question for the experts: would a mars aqua 300w or bloomspect 1200w (preferred) be ok to light a 40g breeder? How much flow would I need for mostly just macro and “maybe” a bta? Looking at add a couple dragonface pipefish, two sea horses and couple clowns. Have been told I shouldn’t need to run a skimmer on the tank with the macro ?

Should be fine with the Mars, try and keep it around 10k colour temperature, for flow you will want minimalist as you have seahorses and they really happy on low flow. Try and incorporate a refugium were you can grow an invasive species of macro and create a safe place for pods. The dragonface and the seahorses will hunt all day and you soon will run out of them. If you want seahorses and the dragon face you will have to change your mind about the anemone as it will sting and kill them. I would also look at adding a Molly or two to keep the tank free from gha. Hope it helps. I wouldn’t bother with a skimmer but probably look at a oxidator to keep oxygen levels up and Cristal clear water. A good source of phytoplankton would be a bonus on this tank to.

Man, you guys have some super cool stuff. If you ever want to sell a bit, PM me!! I'm trying to get my macro growout running again so we can revitalize this part of the hobby.
I just got back into the hobby, but here are some pics from my 70g macro lagoon that I broke down in 2015.

One of my favorites by far, Scinaia sp if I remember right, I'm dying to find some again:

I know this thread is a little old but what is this? That’s an awesome looking piece.

I believe it’s frilly halymenia, it’s growing well and soon to become a nice centre. There’s thousands of algaes out der that don’t make the hobby I believe this is just one example of what can be found also much nicer to look than some corals [emoji38]
