2-3feet? lol geez. Are they really apparent of Rockwork. I was considering a choats but my sand be is like narrow strips. Maybe one corner is a decent patch less narrow and I keep wondering if the foundation rock just isn’t a good fit.
My sand is very shallow. Wrasse know where it’s deeper and they go easy. Adorned did it as more fun along my front glass where no rocks or any obstacles to hit. It was a 6’ tank and they had a lot of space. Wrasse like to bury against rocks so they know what they are doing.
Most injuries will be from wrasse getting spooked and they don’t think and dive to fast in fear.

That’s good to know, I thought random rock would be a problem but they do it in the ocean too. That and how they’re labeled as expert only kind of made them a bit more intimidating. You guys are all reassuring in here.

Besides the transition, do you see the choat a lot? I’m still torn if its pattern is worth it, some people say they hide a lot and it’s not as vibrant as it seems.

Lol I wish there was a petstore that just had all the fish so you could see them next to each other.

100% worth it, mine is now out almost from lights on to lights out. Once they settle they are realitively bullet proof.

The guy in the back is Hologymnosus doliatus, another weird wrasse I have - I’d love a rhonodotus though.

Oh! And I still hunt for Splendens, although I can’t work out how many female pencils I want 😆
I used to have 4-5 pencils at once - a pair of Splendens, Kaleidos, Labrynthus and i think I still had my Edwardi at that point.
And, for anyone interested, here’s all the pencils I’ve kept;
1. Edwardi (M)
2. Severnsi (M)
3. Splendens (M & F)
4. Kaleidos (M & F)
5. Labrynthus (F)
6. Polackorum (M) - only in an LFS, for now

My favourite? Well, obviously the first pencil I truly fell in love with, Kaleidos! There’s just something about both the males and females that no other pencil has.

I have a question, how did you like the royal pencil wrasse? I’m thinking about getting one. It would go with my blue star leopard and Christmas wrasse.

Beautiful fish! That's been on my want list for a while. My pencil (splendens) gets along great with my blue star leopard and did with my Halichoeres chrysus (RIP). Also fine with my Anampses neoguinaicus, but gets chased occasionally by my Cirrhilabrus exquisitus. Leaves the pinkies alone, too.

i cant think

Extra credit if you guess the sex of this choati
1. Cirrhilabrus shutmani if it’s from now, but if it’s from a few years back Cirrhilabrus jordani ;)

2. Female Choati!

Got back from vacation and noticed my Iridis has transitioned. Hard to get clear pictures as he’s constantly moving but the face lines with the electric blue against the yellow/orange look great.

Is it similar to this?

JordanI the yellow is the give away

Choats is early stage of transition in that picture. That is a tough one and safe to say female. Technically you are correct as it’s not a male yet but starting to transition

Hey I plan on adding a regular leopard wrasse, earmuff wrasse, potentially a yellow tail tamarin, and chaots wrasse to the tank. Is there anything in particular I should know and are there any super beautiful wrasses i should consider?

I’ve had a leopard in QT for over 3 weeks now. I have only ever seen it in the morning. That is concerning to me because I have only been able to feed it 3 times since I have gotten in because I’m not home when it is out. I go to work at 6AM
I had this same issue. You could leave live pods or live brine in the tank if it’s a cycled QT tank. Mine transitioned to EST after about three weeks. I was late to work trying to feed it a couple of times! Good luck. I know it’s a stressful situation.
Mine hadnt reappeared since the hooded fairy wrasse, who has been relegated to the refugium, attacked him. That was a week ago. 2 weeks after i got him.

My LFS go a radiant in thursday. I paid for it, but will be giving him a couple weeks to relax.

I'm so stoked. I went into an lfs yesterday, and they had just received a radiant 2 days earlier! I offered to pay for it, but they just wanted a deposit. We're going to wait a couple weeks to see how he's doing before i bring him home.
