The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Whether it is fully grown or not, I'm not sure. He has had for about 8 years now, so I would tend to think it's fully grown. It's certainly an alpha male by the coloration, and long flowing anal fin

His is a mere 5".

Love my wrasses new addition is the gold nugget the peacock took a dislike to it and it went into hiding again but recently appeared again and the peacock has shown no interest now.
How long have you had that tamarin wrasse? How does it do with the others?

Well, I think I have a transitioning 1 inch Bipartitus she’s bearing the green face as well as those pinkish facial stripes.

Any thoughts on what would pair best with a Melanarus below? Tank is 36x24x22 I believe

I would like something that would go with a Melanarus Wrasse as I had one in my old tank for many years.
Possibilities:
- Carpenter Wrasse
- Excuisite Wrasse
- Leopard Wrasse
- McCoskers Wrasse
- LubbocksFairy Wrasse
- Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse
- Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse

Looking to add 2-3 along with the Melanarus. Any advice on which above would pair well would be great.

I actually spoke with Hunter and he said not to add the orange back or red head as they will get too large for this tank, sad because they are beautiful fish!

Also avoid the Flashers, they will become too active.
The rest may fit though.

Exquisite, leopard, and Lubbocks are the best choices from your list.

A month or so now, really well absolutely no issues with the other wrasses when added, how ever the purple tang didn’t take a like to it and it went to the sand for 6 days came out no issues as the peacock and nugget first a clash the nugget went into hiding came out again no issues

Hello everyone! I have a Ruby Head, Solorensis, and Dusky Wrasse. What other reef safe wrasses could I add to the mix without issue?
it all depends on tank size, dimensions will really help

Reefer S-1000 7ft
thats a perfect tank size as you could have some of the larger wrasses such as an Attenuatus Flasher Wrasse or some of the larger Anampses such as neoguinaicus.

Questions on Macropharyngodon meleagris compatibility. I had two females together for several years until I added an Atlantic green Alpheus snapping shrimp which killed one (and went on to kill several other fish before I figured out what was going on). The remaining wrasse was moved to another tank and now, two years on, has transitioned. There are no other wrasse in that tank. I am considering adding another younger female Macropharyngodon meleagris as I like the female pattern as well as the fantastic male pattern and coloration. My two females always got along very well together, but I'm not sure whether that was an anomaly and whether a male and female would be compatible.

Will a resident male be aggressive to a newly introduced female? Will the female inevitable transition at some point or will it remain female as long as there's a fully transitioned male in the tank?

Tank is 48x24x14 (Deep Blue 80).

the female shouldnt transition with a male in the tank unless the female is already transitioning. Ideally you'd want to add 2 females at once to reduce aggression from the established male.

Thanks for the recommendation. I probably should have asked a different question... I'm trying to wrap my head around compatibility of various wrasse species. I've been told only 1 Halichores, beyond that I know nothing of compatibility across the board.

You're in the right space then!
Halichoeres can be done in multiples as long as theyre not the same species.

Any advice on what order to add these in along with the melanarus?

Preferably would like to get all at the same time if that ok.
I would get the Exquisite and Lubbocks first and add them together. Then I would add the Melanurus and leopard together after the fairy wrasses have had a chance to establish themselves for a little while.

Honestly, the lubbock is a rather aggressive wrasse so I’d personally add the Lubbocki with the Melanurus instead.
