The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Unfortunately it is so I doubt I'll be doing a Cirrhilabrus
I would skip a Pseudojuloides too then. Most of them are deep water species so they won't appreciate such a shallow tank. If you want something uncommon see if you can score a Tanaka Pygmy wrasse.

I see what you mean - I believe Severnsi is found at depths of 40 feet normally. I've definitely considered Wetmorella but getting hold of one is a nightmare.

Yeah they're tough to source over here too. But if you do get lucky Tanaka's red coloration makes them a striking little wrasse. I'm in the process of setting up a nano with similar dimensions to yours (30"x13"x13") I'll be on the lookout for a Wetmorella too.

That settles it then, I'll probably try and keep a pair of Wetmorellas and Pseudocheilinops. Also, looking forward to seeing your nano runniong! It's a nice dimension for a nano (Especially if you're like me and love the top down look of tanks).

I've owned a tanaka before but my pincushion urchin got a hold of him during the night unfortunately.

Oh that’s right I remember one of your Pygmy wrasses had gotten eaten I forgot it was a Tanaka’s. That definitely means you need another one.

Its made the list :)

Also, for anyone who owns a Halichoeres or Pseudojuloides, would love to see photos (and use them if you’re okay with it) for my next two articles I’ll be planning.
I’ve only got photos of my two Halichoeres so far.

Here they are!
You know I couldn’t pass on the offer. I did plan for a trio but due to issues with trying to find even just one I dropped it to a pair. Well, I went to the LFS and these weren’t going to be sold originally but they were healthy and eating nicely so the owner decided to sell them. I saw 2 originally but then a 3rd appeared and turns out he had a group of about 5 in the tank. Obviously I had to take the offer of 3 Pseudocheilinops ataenia when I had it!

Will those do ok in a group? They seem peaceful enough.

You should write your next article on Pseudocheilinops ataenia.

That’s what we’ll see!
The LFS is one of the only LFS’s I trust and the owner said he’s had them in groups on several occasions and they do nicely.

So far, I’ve found they seem to prefer grouping when they find eachother - most likely for safety reasons.

Definitely! I now have the trio to do it with so I will be getting photos gathered up over the next few weeks :)

They’ve been in the tank for I believe an hour now and I’ve seen all three. This is a species I don’t think I’ll ever own a single specimen of again - Especially in a 3’ tank. Cant wait to find a pair of Tanakai (I’ll probably be waiting a month before getting them as I’ve just spent quite a bit already).

This dang thread has turned my new tank stocking from 1-2 wrasses to looking at 5 :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
We aim to add to the addiction :D

Hope you guys enjoy this :)
This is one of the three pink streaks I own (I believe she is the smaller one however to be 100% I’d need to see them all together) showing off the natural behaviours.

Also, what wrasses are you looking for/owning currently?

So I have settled with melanarus, yellow corris, excuisite, lubbocks, and carpenter. Thinking of adding all at once. Other tank mates will be 2 black ice clowns, Tomani tang, and exquisite firefish. Sorry I am terrible with the wrasse scientific names.
