The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

I think I've decided to go with a couple of extra Flashers, what do yall think of a Carpenter's + a Royal to go with what I've already got?
I really like the Royal. Was supposed to get one today from Dr. Reef, but it didn't make QT, so he is instead sending me a Linespot flasher. Royal will have to come at another time!

5 years and going strong

I read a few threads where people claim to only buy one because that eventually happens — even though countless people say they don’t do well without schools
What is this “countless”?It’s the same with Anthias. People claim they “need” schools yet almost anyone who gets a school end up with just one in the long term. Here's a good source.

Definitely going to read. I try to look up on chat gpt when forums feel contradictive. Wrasse they claim all can turn male and become aggressive to one another but can be fine as long as tank permits happy homes. Anthias it pushes more on the school idea - and like you said, there’s still people who claim eventually it ends up with one.

Sorry I think I woke up in a bad mood. Almost all fish live in groups but my experience and common wisdom is that groups end badly and the bigger the difference between two fish the less aggression. Look at yellow tangs, live in massive groups but try putting two in the same tank.

here in France female are cheaper than male , if i buy female i'll end up with a male at a time or another ? am i right ?,

Honestly this is one of the most difficult decisions I've made for my aquarium. What wrasse will play well together. But I'm excited I think I'm going to be a wrasse fan. And I got some pointers so now to find available wrasses.

Just received some nice looking wrasses from NYAquatic to go along with the few wrasses already in my system. Received a Rhomboid wrasse a halichoeres leucoxanthus, and a splendid leopard wrasse. The leopard wrasse went straight into the sand. Hope they settle in nicely.

I have 2 male meleagris wrasses in my 240 and they have been getting along now for 6-7 years. It seems strange that they do.
I miss the female coloration and was thinking about adding 1-2.
Am I messing with the truce the 2 males have now?
These 2 started out in a group of 5 females.
2 were lost in a velvet outbreak and one more suddenly disappeared a year later, still showing full female colors, while the other 2 started changing.

Hey guys, China Wrasses. I love this fish, I know OrionN has a beautiful pair. Do these guys require a large supply of pods? I was thinking about buying a quarantined one, but my aquarium is only 8 months old so I’m afraid it might not be mature enough to handle one of these guys?

I'm not a pro but, I think hatching brine would be a good substitute for pods if you don't think you have enough pods.

China Wrasse, Anampses neoguinaicus, will eat everything. They don't ship well and often has mouth injury which cause them to be labeled as "difficulty" but the are hardy and has a varied diet and easy to keep if you got one that is healthy and eating.
