Out of curiosity could I run a qt for 30 days running copper and at the same time in the display run hyposalinity to skip a 78 day fallow period?

Can I also run hyposalinity on the qt for an added redundancy?

The fallow period for ich is 60 days. Any invertebrates need to be held in a fishless system for that long.

Both copper and hyposalinity speed that up and can be concluded in 30 days, but I usually go with 30 days AFTER the last ich spots were seen, just to be safe.

Everything says 78 days, why do you say 60?

I went and got a 40g breeder setup and got water in it and heating up. I have moved majority of fish to one side of the tank and blocked them off with egg crates. The plan is to copper treat the fish for 30 days and move them into another tank. Should I also do hyposalinity in the next tank while I wait for the fallow period to end in the display?

Well, 78 (or 76) days is wrong. It was incorrectly taken from the scientific literature by a person who then posted it all over the internet. That then got entrenched as "dogma". Why? Well, it DOES work. But so does 60 days, and even 45 days days in some cases. 120 days would work just as well (grin).

I explain the issue more fully here:

I'm not sure I understand your question - why did you isolate the fish with egg crate? You should not need to expose the fish to copper and then to hyposalinity - just one of those treatments, properly done, will clear an ich infection.

The egg crate was just to divide the tank and get them to one side so it’s easier to catch them. It’s a more open space vs the other side of the tank.
