For me the thing I dread having to do is recharging the calcium reactors. They are heavy when filled with media and water.
Take it out of the sump (unplug the recirc pump and disconnect the supply pump, CO2 line, and pH probe)
Take the top off, take it outside and dump the gray mud out.
Wash it down.
Take the pump apart and clean it.
Pour the new media in and put the top back on.
Take it back to the sump (it's real heavy now)
Hook everything back up and verify the pH probe to controller is accurate.

Whew!

Cleaning and then replacing media in ANY reactor of mine.
I will leave it until I know nothing in it is any good anymore.
Have to disassemble, drag to sink, open, try not to drop everything on the floor or in the sink.
Then put it back together again?
Seriously?

Older I get. Lazier I get. Seems there’s never enough time. Why I’m focused on minimizing use of equipment so I don’t need excuses on why I should not maintain it.

No sump. No skimmer. No wave makers. No water changes. No socks. No carbon. Mechanical filtration that can go months before servicing and when I do it’s done with the least effort.

All that’s left will be scraping the glass, filling the ATO, refilling what I’m dosing, and taking water samples for ICP. Heck I don’t even want to test.

After careful consideration of what’s left. Gonna hate scraping that glass unless I can invent an automatic scraper like those robots that clean your carpet. Wouldn’t that be a hoot although I’d probably need to clean that occasionally.

Or I could hire someone to do all this crap and go fishing on the weekends. Yeap. That works.

Cleaning skimmer cup is definitely the dreaded task for me, the neck doesn’t take long to start getting all caked up.
Just nasty thick crud, yuk.

My tanks are all in my dining room. Seemed like a good place for them.... So my most challenging task is to keep the dining room table clear and the area around my 4 tanks clean... If I get half the table cleared, the wife looks at me and says OMG what got into you?

Actually cleaning my glass. . . I use one of those velcro magnet scrubbers fairly regularly. . . but always seem to let the stuck on algae get. . . stuck. . . in those hard to reach spots. Then I gotta bust out a razor blade and practice hand contortionism!

What task is your headache?
My headache is the frequency of my water changes.
*due to a specific 6 month long issue that I can't figure out.

Using water changes with low alkalinity saltwater (mixed with sodium bisulfate) to counteract alkalinity rising in my tank (with no dosing).

I've currently settled into water changes about every 3 days to force approx 0.6 dKH drop immediately,,, then let it rise back up and repeat.

*won't go deeper here since there are many threads on similar and I've already gone pretty far down the rabbit hole
