Been qting my fish and today I noticed tons of tiny black worms moving around on the pvc. Anyone know what they are? Already had 2 tangs die trying to save the rest of my fish now...

Welcome to R2R! I want to say pods but hard to tell from the photo. How long were the tangs in QT? What size QT? Did they arrive healthy? Other fish in the QT? Have you tested the QT parameters?

35 gal qt. They’re definitely worms...I’ve never seen pods like this lol. The fish were healthy when I got them, from what I could tell. Went on vacation and hippo tang was just about dead when I got back. Saw ich like spots on my powder brown so I fed him a lot with sups (per my lfs advice) and he suddenly got lethargic and heavy breathing. I put him in qt with quick cure and he dies about 30 mins later

I wonder if with him on the edge already the meds just added to the stress. He may have been a goner either way who knows. If you can, try to get the most clear picture of the words you can and post it in the “Critter ID” section of the forum, you may get better answers there. I’ll tag #reefsquad maybe they can chime in on this as well.

I’ll try for better pics tomorrow! Yeah, my lfs said if they’re that bad, you can try to med them, but their fate is possibly already sealed. Thanks for chiming and and thanks for the help

Anytime! :) Just one small side note, I’d take everything the LFS says with a grain of salt and research on here before buying anything. Convenient for many of them that they keep fish at 1.017 salinity so the symptoms of ich remain dormant only for you to bring the fish home, acclimate them, and then the symptoms pop up a few days later. Even more convenient that they’ll happily sell you the meds that you probably don’t need for those same fish shortly after. Not saying your LFS or every LFS is this way, but I know some that I’ve frequented have been so be weary!

Have you done a FW dip to see if any come off of your fish? If so I would try treating with Prazipro to see if that will kill them.
