the lingo im not following wp25?? so having a 1400 koralia on each side should be fine....or too much and if i get the hydor smartwave that would be good

125 gallons x 20 = 2500 gallons per hour so yes 2 1400's should be great. And would def recommend smart wave controller.

Yes, in a LPS dominated tank and an SPS dominated tanks. They move water no doubt but I don't think it is as turbulent as the other three companies can do. Yeah you get the water to slush back and forth for what? So you can say its just like the ocean! My tank makes a wave giggle giggle.

My buddy HAD two mp40s in his tank and it was doing ok. He got rid of one mp40 for a wp25. What a difference it made, corals opened up more they swept around more. He wants to get rid of the other mp40 for a wp25.

When he did run two mp40s one was on pulse at 30% and the other on reef crest at 60%. The flow was ok like I said but I kept telling him it was too blah. Bring in the wp25 and two weeks later the tank looks total different color wise and how wide open the coral are now. Flow is extremely random.

Whatever you say, I'm not about to derail this thread with a Chinese powerhead is greater than all higher end powerhead thread...there is a ton of those. You can continue to imagine that a wp25 is better than an mp40 and the greatest thing since sliced bread, I'm not going to waste my time commenting on that point anymore past this.

Your comments have me bewildered though, the most common mode used on a vortech is reefcrest mode (the same mode your friend was using)...which does not slosh water back and forth, it blows random turbulent flow everywhere, it's not designed to make a wave.

Back to the original post and question, I don't know what kind of coral you plan to keep but you can add more flow. My 150 gallon had two koralia magnum8, two 1400 gph koralias, and a powerhead with two 1200 gph heads on it. The powerhead with 2 heads was always on, the magnums switched every 8 hours, the 1400 gph powerheads would switch every three minutes with both of them on for a minute. I replaced all of that with the two mp40s two years ago and was concerned that I was losing flow. The two mp40s seem to make more flow than all of that combined, and even though I could point my other powerheads I still had a lot of dead spots... The mp40s have eliminated that. Also, with the koralias being switched by my apex, they would wear out every six months and have to be replaced, this cost quickly added up. They would either stop working or spin backwards, and made a stray voltage in the tank. I strongly reccomend you look at getting some sort of controllable powerhead, if on a budget look at the jaebo at fishstreet.com, if you want more higher end but cheaper check out some tunze, if you want what I consider the best (personally) save up and get two mp40s...you can find used ones on the forum all of the time for a lot less than new ones, they last a long time too.

The extra powerheads will not hurt anything.

BCT - I may have miss typed but one MP was on pulse and one was on reef crest with both 50% or less. They both were not on reef crest.

+1. Vortechs are worth every penny. Customer Service is unmatched. Period. Product is made of the best materials available. Dreamt, innovated, designed, and built in America. The code that allows up to 8 pumps to run off of one controller allowing for all variances for each pump has got to be one nasty nasty piece of code. The undertow is unmatched. Lets just not mention that their is simply one less cord that could leak voltage in the tank. These things are important. You get what you paid for with these pumps. The higher price tag allows this company to continue innovating new products, improve existing ones, add accessories, maintain a strong customer support, and so on. I'm not bagging any pumps out there by any means but if you want the best all around design, functionality, and "functional" customer support you are going to have to shell out some coin. And to one others comment the reefs I've seen have regular wave patterns with minor random flow turbulence/shifts. But as to your question its all about placement with everything. Its a pain but moving new/old frags, pumps/direction, would probably save a lot of loss within many systems. Hope you figure it out. Luck...!!

Have you ever seen a vortech working in person? You don't need to aim them, they make flow everywhere. When I say everywhere, I mean everywhere.
