I think your answer is in what you quoted. ;)

The Alkatronic is great. Much more useful than the trident will be I believe as it’s not just a tester it can actually do something when stuff goes awry. I think the trident will be ok bit more expensive to do less.
For example: every coral vendor has a 5-10 day money back guarantee. With Triton, I believe that hobbyists will be able to demand that these Guarantees are extended to 30+ days once we can furnish a comprehensive, holistic apex log that shows our water parameters were stable and within approved ranges.
I don't really understand what the value of conducting one test is, particularly as it relates to making a diagnosis or having your system dose/turn on/off equipment in attempt to correct itself.
Well for starters it’s the one test that matters the most. Calcium can be too high or low with no real detrimental effect other than slowed growth when levels are low. With a calcium reactor both alkalinity and calcium are dosed at the correct ratio and only minor corrections may need to be made, say once a month if even that often. Magnesium is slightly different in that elevated levels will kill sps, however it’s uptake is extremely slow and monthly adjustments are sufficient in 95% of systems.
Dosing pumps change things up a bit as you have to dial each one in independently but you still don’t really need to test calcium or magnesium that often, say weekly for calcium and monthly for magnesium should be fine. Personally in the last two years since the first alkalinity tester came out I’ve moved to only testing calcium and magnesium once a month at most with no issues.
I think that Trident will be transformational in ways that people aren't discussing yet. For example: every coral vendor has a 5-10 day money back guarantee. Naive at best lol. To think this is just sad and is indicative of a overall lack of understanding of both the business model and how little impact the 3 results have on overall coral health. Alkalinity is unarguably the most important of the three, however even if all three were “perfect” this says nothing of overall water quality, no nitrates, phosphates, heavy metals, etc. also no mention of lighting, flow or any number of other factors such as stray electricity, placement, troublesome fish or inverts that can push an already stressed coral over the edge.
I think the trident will be of the best value to those who utilize two part dosing. For those of us running a calcium reactor it’s pretty much just bells and whistles but not needed. I’ve had all the alkalinity controllers out and will get the trident as well even though it’s not a controller. All said I do look forward to hearing how demanding coral vendors give you a 30 day guarantee goes.
Good luck with that “demand”. From a business owner’s perspective, that’s a pretty tall ask IMO.

This is the typical attitude of a customer who wants blood from stone, but then complains about everything being so expensive. I will agree to disagree with the validity of your “demands” from coral retailers as a result of the miracle of the yet to be seen Neptune Trident.
I do look forward to the upcoming announcements from Neptune in regards to their progress, their vision for the Trident’s functionality and any potential release date.
