Look i know i know people are going to say something about the size of the tank or whatever but hear me out. I have the opportunity to get a really cheap deal on my friends picasso trigger fish. It’s about 3 inches long. I would really like to get this fish even if it’s not permanent. I now have 2 tanks, 1 40 gallon reef with only soft corals and a couple sps. I also just set up a 20 gallon which has nothing in it right now. I’ve been reading and seeing about people having this kind of fish in a similar reef and they don’t have any problems. I know it’s different with every fish but i was just thinking it would be cool. In the 40 I have a clownfish, coral beauty, and a wrasse that’s pretty big and aggressive at this point . So if i were to put it in there i have no inverts or anything so just those few fish and a few corals. Or i could put it in my new 20g by itself or something but idk. What are people’s thoughts on it im open

I think the trigger would be safe with the corals.

I think the main concern is the space. Would the fish be fine in a temporary tank? Would you be okay with selling or giving it away when it gets bigger?

I’ll let others chime in, but the Picasso should be safe with corals.

Edit: what aggressive wrasse do you have?

I only have a couple zoas and hammers and a torch
It’s the tank size much more than corals.

You’d likely have to re home in just one year.

Recommended tank size is 180 gallons.

No in a 40g and heck no on a 20g. Mine was a 3" terror. 180g 6ft tank. It decimated my CUC which is to be expected. Killed a giant hermit crab by chewing through the 3-4" conch shell it lived in. Again it's a trigger. It would chase large tangs away from the nori until it had its fill Final straw was when it started picking at my 30" zebra moray for no reason that I could figure out other than it was bored. The zebra stopped eating and died. I've kept Niger and blue throat with out the behavior of the picaso.
There really is no great deal on picaso triggers as they're cheap fish to begin with.

I know it's tempting to not listen to that little voice in your head that says 'this fish is not the right size for this tank'... We have probably all done at once or twice… But we have also all regretted it. So I vote "no." :(

DO YOU THINK TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS ARE MORE HELPFUL OR HURTFUL TO REEFING?
