I've recently been attempting to perform Seachem's nitrate test, however I struggle to understand how I'm supposed to get 2 pipettes full of water into the sampling slots.
Whenever I get the correct amount of water into the pipette, it almost completely fills up the sample slot, leaving no room for a second pipette of water.

After performing the test, the result was a brown colour instead of pink.

On-top of that, I haven't been able to perform a reference test since the only way I've been able to successfully fill the base of the pipette was by turning the pipette upside down in a jug of water from the tank, but the solution provided for the reference test isn't large enough for me to do what I did with the tank water.

Any advice on how to proceed?
Thanks in advance!

What Seachem test are you using? It does not sound like the one I have.

OK, I see the instructions are confusing. Do this.

Holding the pipette vertically with the tip in the water, draw up water until it reaches the bottom of the bulb.

So you want me to keep squeezing the base of the pipette until it fills the bottom of the bulb?

The object is to fill only the tube leading to the bulb. The water should not enter the bulb. The base of the bulb is the point where the tube meets the bulb.

Update: I followed the advice from @Dan_P involving filling the tube of the pipette, but I got the same result.

I suspect it could be an issue with the chemicals, either the instructions told me to add an incorrect amount or potentially they may have expired?
