He's not dead. I believe they can make a new tube but I have 0 experience with them.

I would have left it in, they are a type of worm and will move when un happy. It won’t “nuke” your tank and the mucus if I remember is it starting a new tube. It’s been maybe oder 10 years since I’ve had personal experience with them but they are pretty hardy and I’d put it back in and let it do its thing.
I have the base and cup still. Should I just lay the nem down? Or put base nearby too?

Put it back in, in a low flow area and see what happens. This usually happens when they are un happy with their conditions. 50/50 if it’s gonna make it or not but taking it out will lessen its chances.

Reason to believe it happen bc I was cleaning glass and nuged it with the scrapper to reach since he was sitting up against glass. I put him back in. Do you say to put nem in, or nem + base nearby?

If it’s happy it’ll make a new base. So I’d leave that out. Monitor it and see what happens.

How long has the tank been running?

July is 2 years, so about 1.5 years. 110 gallons
It’s well established. I would monitor and see what it does. They can do this from stress or getting picked on by fish. But it doesn’t look picked at.

Like @Reef Jedi said just the Nem. Put it near the rocks rather than the middle of the tank.

Bury the tube in the sand about an inch below the crown. It will regrow a new tube. Try and put it where it gets enough light, but not blasted by flow.

As has already been mentioned, it should regrow a new tube, but to help make it feel secure, bury the foot in the sand some. The mucus it’s producing will essentially create a sand tube.

With that being said, in my experience with them, if they’re not happy they’ll move on their own under the sand (had it happen twice). But usually you see it above the sand. Hope this helps!

yeah, he was ticked off by something. partially burying him is good. you may also want to have kept his previous casing there for parts. they like heavier particles than just fine sand for building. taking him out may have stressed him more but keep monitoring him. mine unfortunately landed in the MP40 and tentacles were through all the holes. so I was not able to recover that safely. do you have any bristle worms in the sand that would have ticked him off? were you vacuuming near him? was he close to the cup coral previously?

Would it be an issue if the base has been in a cup since 8pm last night, and I won’t be home till around 2?

They can make a new base , I’ve had one had its base eaten by my fish lol , it used sand / mucus to make a new one. Just leave it alone , and like already mentioned burying it helps. I’ve also used anemone cups with sand to house them they really enjoyed that
