I have had a frog spawn coral for many weeks and it has been thriving. All of the sudden today the "stalk" is getting black and it is closing up. Help! What do I need to do?

Posting before and after pictures. (BTW- the coral was moved up from the "before" picture location to it's current rock and was getting brighter and thriving for at least two weeks before today's discovery).

First thing anyone here is going to ask is for your tanks parameters and how old is the set up.

You are right. I just got home from work and noticed it and started freaking out. Tank is 4 months old. I have had zero issues until now.

Start with tank parameters: Alk, Cal, Mag, PH and temp (also don't forget salinity) In my experiences with LPS especially new hammers, frogspawn and torches they can be pretty picky to stability, lighting and flow besides stabil parameters.

It took me over a year to get hammers, torches and frogspawns to settle and grow. They like a fair amount of light, moderate flow and a Ph upwards of 8.2 - again that's from my experience, it's not gospel and many others here will chime in.

A little inspiration for you, this frogspawn is 2 years old, started as 2 heads and barely covered the frag plug. It's now over 30 heads.

Hammer does not do the best in a newer system and requires fairly good parameters.
Moderate light and water flow and also alk around 8.5 -9. . Ph 8.1-8.3, salinity 1.025. . . ca 450, mag 1300-1400 and water temp 77-79.

Moving hammer up a little was a good move but assure the above parameters are met. Allow it to remain in place know as moving it around more will only stress it out

Wow! It’s beautiful. I just did a water change. Salinity and temperature are fine. I will check the other parameters tomorrow. Thanks for the response.

Thanks. I read to start with placement at the bottom and then move up. It was really doing great in the current spot so I glued it to the rock. It has been so happy and all of the sudden- bam.

I do know I needed more flow and just added a wave maker tonight once I got home and saw this. (Ironically it was delivered from Amazon yesterday).

I didn’t know if overfeeding and low flow could cause something to be off with nitrites so I also did a water change tonight.

31a old screen name doing the 60 and 45 now
Better yet and the 60 , you can at least stand up now. The 25 and 35 had them bullet tanks and hard to determine full weight as those tanks appeared full until you rotated then the pounds dropped slightly.
Oh. . . memory lane.
