Hey guys,

I recently bought a used 110 acrylic tank, I filled it up with water so I know it doesn't leak. I'm thinking of applying weld on 4 to all the seams before setting it up as my display. I want to do this just to strengthen the seams for piece of mind. Is this a good idea, if anyone has experience I would appreciate your opinion, thanks.

No. Don't do this.
Applying weld-on will cause damage to acrylic surface that eventually can make the tank surface a crazed mess. IT will weaken, not strengthen an already bonded tank.
That's what I was afraid of, glad I asked before doing. I'll leave it as is thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

@Troylee can offer up more advice
I messaged him back.. for anyone else reading this no don’t ever do that it’s a bad idea and will weaken the acrylic.. if the seams look crystal clear then it’s good to go! If there’s cloudy areas that’s delamination and it would best to deal with one accordingly

Thanks for the help! gald I didn't jump the gun and applied the weld on.

Cloudy or delaminated seams indicate that the acrylic bond is already compromised.

Applying weld-on there can further weaken the material because the solvent will seep into the flaws instead of forming a strong, uniform bond.

I wouldn’t use weld on unless fabricating it myself.
