what do you do to clean your filter sock ?

Just asking around. Im wondering exactly what do you do to clean your filter sock. Im gonna be cleaning mine for the first time. Do you use any cleaning products or simply hose it clean ?

I put mine on soak in the washer w/ a capful of bleach unscented- so roughly a tablespoon maybe.
They soak for about an hour, I rise, soak again for about an hour and then run them on a short wash cycle- Being doing it that way for years.

All of this after hosing them well outside

About the same, I throw them in the washer with only bleach. Rinse cycle twice and if there is any residual bleach left in the sock, it will evaporate. Never use soap or anything else.

Gentle cycle, low water level, cold water a Tbs of bleach wash, diito the same with no bleach air dry outside to get rid of if any bleach still in them.

It seems that we've covered this a million times, but when I did a search I only found these two threads:

I fill a 3-gal bucket with hot water, dump in a cup or so of bleach and, using a rubber glove, gently plunge four dirty socks up and down in the water for a couple of minutes. Be careful not to splash. I then let them soak for at least four hours. More often they soak all day or all night. I dump out the bleach solution and refill the bucket with hot tap water. The socks get plunged up and down for a couple of minutes. That water gets dumped out and the bucket refilled with tepid water. To that water I add a dechlorinator and plunge the socks up and down several times to neutralize the chlorine. The socks are then wrung out and hung up to dry. Actual time "washing" is 7 or 8 minutes. I have eight socks for my two tanks and change them every three days, so I'm only washing socks once a week.

ok like the title says. how do ya?
I recently took the advise to use diesel bags to help filter my tank it works great and my tank loooks marvelous darling but how should I clean the filter socks? I am worried about soap residue in the washer but they do not get clean rincing them in the sink. should I use bleach? how much? should I use the washer and just rince them several times.
please do tell :)

I run them through the washer with my fish room towels . Bleach only. Then I put them in the dryer without fabric softener. I've never done any extra rinse cycles but it certainly won't hurt.

wow there's seems to be a lot of differing oppinions about it. I really dont think they will come clean without bleach but now I'm even more concerned after reading that..soo

I personally have used bleach for a couple of years with no issues. It's not like I use a cup of it, but more like a quick pour! Just avoid the new splashless varities of bleach as they really do bubble up!

I turn mine inside out and rinse the crud off.
Then I soak overnight in a bucket of water and bleach(~ 10:1).
Then I rinse in and soak in tap water overnight.
Then I air dry them until I'm ready to use them again.

They all get clean as new and have stood up 50+ washes with this method.
