Hi everyone. I have a 40 gallon breeder. One blue crocea I have had for several years. And a few lps. For fish there is a male mandarin and some tiny bluish goby.

Looking for a few other reef safe fish. MUST be clam safe. Chowder hates being on the menu. And would prefer really peaceful smaller types. Any ideas would be welcome.

There are so many fish that are safe and compatible with clams. Clowns, smaller wrasses (wetmorella, pink streaked, H. chrysus), cardinals, gobies (blennies, but there are some that might nip). Fish to avoid or may have the potential to nip, centropyge angels, butterflies, filefish.

I will look up these wrasses. I was thinking of slower moving fish since the little goby in that tank is really shy. Also considering a fire fish. My angels and CBB are in a larger tank.

Anyone know why a Tailspot Blenny; Royal Gramma, Purple Firefish and possibly a Banggai Cardinal would or wouldn’t work in my 40. Along with my current male dragonet and unknown tiny bluish goby. While I enjoy my clam, “Chowder” the tank needs some fish.

Thanks
Shelley

i dont think 6 line wrasses have ever been captive bred. i could be wrong though
I am not sure either. But while I appreciate the idea, my mandarin said no to competition. 😂. My little guy does eat frozen food also.

Dumps sand everywhere 25/7.
I have one in my tank in a back room. I gave it sand. It chose to make its home with larger rocks. Hasn't made a mess in a year. I admit to being a little nervous though.

Those would work, but FYI, my tailspot was a clam nipper. I would suggest swapping out the tailspot for a fancy goby like a yellow or green clown goby, which also have fun characters.

A sixline can be risky if other wrasses are introduced. A safer bet would be a pink streak wrasse and/or a possum wrasse. I'd do both!

Note: they all eat pods, so pod competition could become an issue.

If you want to get bold (and beautiful), a royal pencil wrasse (Pseudojuloides severnsi), splendid pencil wrasse (Pseudojuloides splendens) or kaleidos pencil wrasse (Pseudojuloides kaleidos) would all do great if you have sand, and they are very colorful.

Thank you. No clam nipper if I can avoid it. Will look into both these.

@JoJosReef I am open to anything that will be peaceful and make my little tank pop. I really appreciate all your ideas. And yes I have sand.
