I picked up my Achilles Tang the day before yesterday. He is in a quarantine tank with Coppersafe as a preventative since Tangs seem to get ich as a matter of course. His color on top of his head has a reddish hue and he has a white patch on the bottom of his head. He is eating and swimming around. I have seen him scratch against the large piece of live rock in the tank. The tank has a hang-on-the-back filter with a water polishing pad, a regular mechanical filter pad, and media to reduce ammonia. He might be stressed from all of the moving he has done from the reef to the LFS to my quarantine tank and maybe I am overly concerned. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of what it means when a tang looks this way?

Some medications I have on hand in addition to the Coppersafe are PraziPro, Kanaplex, and Maracyn Oxy. I don't want to start throwing medications into the tank in case the combination ends up making the situation worse.

I checked the copper levels last night and they are above the 2.0 indicated as necessary on the bottle.

I would upload video or photos but the photo icon asks for a URL. Is there a way to upload a video or photos saved on my computer and not a website?

Thank you in advance to anyone with knowledge or experience.

The white mark may be from scratching But before we go forward with assessment, Please post a video of at least 20 seconds with White light intensity, no blue and even a couple of pics

Coppersafe is best used at 2.25 ppm for regular quarantine up to 2.5 ppm for active protozoan infections. The scratching can be a symptom of flukes - and Prazipro can help with that. I may be able to tell you more once you've uploaded pictures and video.

The video is very short, but the fish is breathing a bit fast - maybe due to stress from being in that container. The reddish brown discoloration is normal for this species when stressed.

I put him in there for a RODI bath in case of flukes. He was stressed. He has that color in the 40 gallon quarantine tank too. He doesn't breathe hard like he did during the RODI water bath. That bath upped his stress for sure.

My gmail limits the MB I can send. Here is another short video.

Thank you for the information on him being stressed and having that coloring. I didn't find that information on the internet when I searched. Maybe I should make him a live rock structure in his quarantine tank? I have some extra marco rock.

At first, I had him in with a couple of other fish that I moved to a second quarantine tank. He seemed to be getting along with them. Maybe removing the other fish yesterday stressed him out too? I also did a water change yesterday. Maybe he is a tang who doesn't like being alone? Tang's don't normally seem to care if they have fish friends.

Marco rock, being made out of calcium based material, may cause absorption issues with any copper medications. Beside, Achilles tangs don't "hole up" like many other fish do, so added structure may not be of much benefit.
