I came down to check on my tank, and my skimmer is like that.

I notice this behavior happens everytime i feed, it happens few hours after? Why? Sometimes it fixes itself sometimes it doesnt.

What are you feeding? I read another thread recently where feeding foods that are higher in fats can cause issues with your skimmer properly functioning.

Pe mysis, literally added some RODi water to the cup, and added them 3 cubes. This behavior is not new to me usually it fixes itself, but lately the past few days it hasn’t im shocked

Not uncommon at all, more likely than not.

:)

I am not sure seeing I have never had this issue before. I usually never fed much mysis ither.

Maybe @Miami Reef can chime in seeing he has been having this issue recently

Right? So strange.

I switched to pellets and regular mysis. I’m trying to stay away from high fat diets as a test.

I don’t have this issue ever since I changed my carbon at the same time as switching the diet.

I changed my carbon today, i gotta admit it, i havent changed my carbon for almost a month, i was slacking, maybe thats why. I hope my skimmer gets back to normal by tomorrow. My skimmer been running for 2 years 0 issues. Usually i feed heavy, it does that. And then returns to normal. But if it doesnt go back to normal by tmw morning something is up. Gotta try to see if the airlines need some cleanup.

Worst case might remove and do a good vinegar wash? Maybe a build up of oils overtime starting to cause the issue? Just shooting in the dark here

Is that body color for the skimmer normal? Its not white white

It’s like a watery color, right?

Does it look washed out and diluted?

Its like watery exactly. The color looks very washed out. Found a pic before. And before it used to be super white

How often do you clean the skimmer?

Some skimmers struggle with oily foods, and it can accumulate on the inner walls overtime.

My Nyos for example is extremely sensitive to oils (and everything else), while my A&C don’t even blink.

Once I started straining my frozen food to remove the oils the Nyos seem to last for far longer without any performance toll, and seem to be more stable. Might be helpful to try it out and see if it makes a difference.

I don’t believe cleaning the skimmer will help; the issue, IMO, is soluble fats in the water column.

I would raise the internal water level so the fats can pop out.

Try switching to a lower fat foods or pre-rinse what you currently feed.

Understandable. When u say internal what do you mean? Like play with the knob to get the water inside the skimmer up?

Yes. That will help push the fat out because it won’t be attached to the air interface like a normal organic would.

I saw. Raise it! :)
Okay, im probably having a hard time understanding. But let me try. So the water inside the body of the skimmer is already below the neck. Are u saying by raising that tiny bit of water above the neck will fix the issue? Isnt the fat inside tje body of the skimmer?
