Currently using Accurasea by TLF. Disolves super fast, nice numbers. Used to use RedSea blue bucket, but Accurasea gives me more bang for the buck on its 180 gallons box.

Best salt I have ever used is AquaVitro. But can't get it anymore here in Puerto Rico. Corals reacted to it like if you were adding reefroids.

Interesting! I’ve never heard of it before, I’ll look it up.

Does yours leave residue in the mixing bin?
Yeah.....but I haven't used a salt that doesn't unfortunately ( have tried 3 different salts). If one exists, I would love to try it lol.

I've used tropicmarin but recently switched to Aquaforest Hybrid salt
I moved to their probiotic method for nutrient control

Do you find faster growth with it vs using regular?
I found reef crystals promoted a lot more coraline algae. I know most folks desire that but I do not.

I've used Tropic Marin Pro for 5 years. It does mix really clean, but after about a year it does accumulate a thin layer of an orangish brown residue on my mixing container. From the outside of the container it looks clean, but if you rub a paper towel inside it'll have residue on it. I use LDPE vertical storage bins so they are translucent, not dark like a brute can.

Its not cheap, but I usually buy it when it's on sale a few times a year. I just buy 4 or 5 boxes at a time so that I'm stocked up.

One advantage it does have is that it mixes fast. I can add salt and it's completely dissolved and ready to use in like 30 minutes. Normally this isn't an issue, but if you need water in a hurry it's nice.

What salt do you use and why?

What benefits do you think your choice has over others?

I used instant ocean regular for 20 years. The last two tanks I’ve used Red Sea blue bucket and I’m not too impressed with the residue it leaves in the mixing bin. I run an awc so it needs to be stored for a month.
IO Reef Crystals. Honestly, I have always only used IO, But this time (2 years now) I went with the Reef Crystals only because it was my first time diving into corals, and I like it, I have no complaints and I go by the old motto " if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Red Sea Blue bucket for me. I run Captiv8 (Trace element dosing much like Reef Moonshiners). This is the most consistent salt that gets me close to NSW levels for most the elements.

I do get the brown crud from the salt but it's all captured by a 5 micron sock on the return in my mixing tank.

How have those tanks gone without cleaning?

Fritz blue.

Never had any problems with IO/RC and used it for many years. However, I had trouble getting the big 200 gal box for a little bit and switched to Fritz because it was available at the time..... and stuck with it because I hate to switch back and forth.

It mixes up real well. I get some precipitate in the mixing bin for sure but nothing crazy. It's very reasonably priced and works well for me.

Could this be removing beneficial stuff from your salt?

Would just running a pleated filter do the same thing?
I don't think so and never had an issue.
The carbon removes organics the pleated filter remove debris.

Instant Ocean. It's the #1 salt on the planet for a reason.
It’s interesting how many people say they use it, for some reason I thought it would be the opposite.
