Hey, this algae has coated my entire tank. I’ve a fake rock background on my tank which is also coated with it. I’ve no nitrate or nitrite or ammonia. I’ve changed my AI prime 26hd light to the “David saxby” schedule since, as It might be because I was running my lights too white? I’m wondering if a lawnmower blenny or tailspot would keep it in check?

Also I’ve recently being adding corals but by bit. PSP, Xenia, zoas, mushrooms and two bubble tip anemones. Adding a toadstool, Duncan and candy cane next aswell as a montipora and acropora. The guy I’m getting them off says he doesn’t dose anything and just does water changes every two weeks. However I was thinking that maybe I should just start dosing as 20% water changes every 2 weeks will cost the same or if not a bit more in the long run. Is there any sort of all in one thing I could dose? Or what do ye recommend? I’m doing this all very budget friendly so keep that in mind too!
Thanks, any advice at all is welcome!

Is there any flow in the tank? Any clean up crew? Can we see a full tank pic? What are the parameters? What test kits are you using? How old is the tank? Need much more information.....

One of the main issues could be simply not having Nitrate in the tank, how’s your phosphate?

Stop adding coral until you get the algae under control. Zero nitrates & zero phosphates are a recipe for Dinoflagellate.

I suggest getting a robust clean up crew with you as the biggest janitor. Please describe your ongoing maintenance schedule.

Sorry about the late reply! I’m doing a 20 percent water change every two weeks/ every week. I don’t actually test phosphate. My nitrates are always at 0 and ph and kh are always stable. The corals seem to be doing well, but the algae seems to be persistent. I bought my ai26hd light second hand and the violet diodes don’t work, but I run it on the David Saxby schedule.

There are also little microorganisms that can be mainly seen moving around on my glass if it isn’t clean. See the photo attached. They kinda of buzz around. Are these dinoflagellates ? Thanks
