Been a minute, but I had some time yesterday so I did some work on the tank. Got the "weir" in and water tested. It's not glued on the bottom so it leaks some, but will be fine.

I also tested the pump with a 9v battery, and holy cow it moves water! I have a new one on order. The one the seller says is submersible. That should be here Saturday.

Sand is being cleaned and the rubble is in the 40. So I should have a cycled tank the day I want to get it running. Makes it easy that everything San come out of another tank without harm.

New pump gets here today so the next problem I want to solve is the light spillage into the filter section. I don't want it to fill with algae so I want to cover it, but I still want it to flow well as I doubt the holes I punched will keep up. I may in the end ignore this and just change the sponge semi regularly.

I also will need to find a DC converter that can power both the pump and the light. The description of the light says it uses 4 watts at 12v. The light is .6 watts. I have a plan to go to the tech store and see what is available, along with a second monitor and mouse for the spouse. And maybe, if I can convince her we would get reasonable use, a 3d printer. I could use it for a return nozzle among other things.

Long time no update, sorry about that. I have a bay window that was rotting away, now I have a bay window with an unstable but new plywood board under it and no rot.

anyways, tank updates: I found a dc converter, soldering stuff, and everything I should need to finish the build. I have a new pump, return tubing came from brewing supplies. I am the proud owner of a new 3d printer and am learning fusion 360 so I can design, or more likely resize an already designed random flow generator to fit. substrate is clean. rubble is in the 40 and well cultured, all I need is an afternoon, or what is more likely a full day to put everything together and we should be live.

I will also now with the new printer make a box/stand for it to sit on. That should hold all the extra wiring and the power switch for the light.

Things are moving on this, but it really isn't the highest priority in my life right now. water and winter proofing the house and already active tanks trump new ones.

Hey look, progress! Today I learned how to draw a box on fusion 360. Now when the shelf brackets are done printing I can print the stand to hold the tank and electrical. Then we're off to the races. I guess I just needed an excuse not to do other responsibilities and a full day where I didn't have to go anywhere. I won an rfa at the lro live sale, but they kindly turned it into a pectinia I've been wanting too. So I will likely pull out one or two from the 40 gallon for this build. Or would they be too big? One is close to 4" and the other is 2+. I could also rework the stocking too.

So here is the first attempt at printing the stand for the tank. I'm a rookie and have lost a lot of prints to poor bed adhesion.

What brand printer? And what do you clean the bed with? Enclosure helps as well....

Ender 3. I cleaned the bed today with Windex. Is that right? But for this print I hadn't. Enclosure for the dust and to keep the warmth in?

I clean my printer bed and then apply some glue stick (search Amazon for "3d printer glue sticks". It's about $8.59 for 4 sticks. Once applied, I just rub it in evenly to make sure it's applied evenly. It doesn't take a lot of glue from the stick to work. Seem to work really well. Also, make sure you calibrate your 3d printer often.

We have a prusa.... We clean with just rubbing alcohol.

Enclosure helps prevent dust, but also helps keep the temp more stable. A lot of times if it's not a clean bed, the issue is part of the plate cooling during the print.

Thanks! I'll work on fixing both. How often do you clean it?

Yo! I made a box! I hollowed it out wrong in the drawing so it printed with the top on it. It was supposed to be separate and the lid was to have holes for the feet of the tank to fit in, but for my first drawing that I did start to finish, I'm happy with it.

I don't know if @Projects with Sam is following along on this thread so I'll invite him! Sam, welcome to Marshall's little tank build.
