Hi All- i have an red robin stag that is about to grow into my yellow-tip. It's prob a few mm away from touching it.

Question- do i trim it now, or wait to see what happens?

I'd personally would wait and see. But that's just me.
I have personally seen in my own tank that some coral naturally curve away from another. While some just merged and some just sting each other until one win. So if you like to experiment with it then let it be. Otherwise, frag it.
