I see both skin irritation and also mucus cones which is often triggered by skin irritation. . Fish will need to be moved to separate treatment tank. How do other occupants loo?
Is this fish still eating?
Often, with mucus plugs, ither fish will show no signs and fish will still eat. Consider treating others also utilizing coppersafe at 2.25 ppm for 28 days and keeping an eye on ammonia level with a reliable test kit.
Leave display fishless for 6 weeks doing water changes bi-weekly on display tank

Everyone else looks fine. Lots of tangs, including PBT, bristletooth, and 5 zebrasoma tangs, plus two other angels various other damsels, blended, gobies, etc with no sign of issue elsewhere. I’m hesitant to rip the tank apart to treat unless we’re dealing with a velvet situation. Fish is a new addition 3-4 days ago

@Jay Hemdal i would appreciate your input when you have a sec! Also @vetteguy53081

Sorry - I can't say what that is. It does look like mucus, but I've not seen that issue in fish that have "dry" ctenoid scales like these angels have. Mucus cones/plugs are typically seen in fish like different types of tangs.

It isn't ich, or velvet and I've never seen that issue from flukes.

Does the fish show ANY other symptoms? Rapid breathing, scratching, not eating?

The only “symptom” I would prescribe is that the angel is hiding in the caves, and only rarely comes out. It picks at rocks, but doesn’t come out for frozen food or nori yet. Seems to be quite afraid.

Do you have an isolation tank, but one that is well established? The problem is that as @vetteguy53081 said, it may need to be treated, but you don't want to put this species of fish into a brank new hospital tank - they need a tank that is well established.

I have a tank, I have saltwater, and I have a good variety of live rock in my sump I can use, but I don’t know what exactly you are looking for in terms of established. I do not have an established isolation tank. My son has a 13.5 gallon evo peninsula that has his clowns in it but it’s basically a frag tank with some ceramic media in the rear chambers

The rock from your sump should provide a good amount of nitrifying bacteria, as well as some grazing opportunity.

Circling back - this showed up on the fish after you had it for 2 or 3 days? That, with your other fish being fine tends to indicate that it came in with whatever this is - you might want to contact the vendor for advice, at least let them know there is an issue with the fish.

Yes, only had the fish for a few days. Also seems to be getting better, slowly. It almost looks like lympho on the edge of the fins, but I’ve never seen lympho cause any kind of wound like this. The fish does “sleep” in the same cave as my purple reef lobster, do you think this could be done by them? I don’t believe they hurt fish usually

I’m going to the zoo with the kids tonight, I joked with my wife that I’d bring the fish🤣

I’ve had reef lobster grab small fish, but I can’t imagine one causing this widespread lesions.

Where did you get the fish? How did it look when it came in?
It came in from a new lfs that opened recently. I know the guy who owns it personally. Fish had recently arrived from distributor one day prior. He had a pair of lemon peels come in and the other one still looks fine, I was there tonight

Just a status update from when I originally noticed it until now. I am not able to remove the fish from the display, so keeping focus on water quality currently. Here is a photo:

Which image is newer and what is the time frame between the shots?

Sorry the first image is newer and was today at 10:30 AM. Second image is from Wednesday at 1:00 PM. So approximately 4 days apart.

Looks like it’s getting better, good! That indicates mucus production versus a symptom of a parasite (which rarely improve without treatment).

nobodys asked , and i see healthy LPS but, whats the PH/alk/salinity at? I remember these being super sensitive to salinity
I’ll get numbers for you tomorrow. Last test was ~2 weeks ago, alkalinity was 9.5. PH as measured by my apex hovers between 8.4-8.6. Salinity I don’t track through my apex because it’s always off. I target 35ppt, but my salinity had crept down so I had done a 25% water change with 40 ppt seawater. I’ll get those actual readings tomorrow and post them here.
