Just read through the whole thread. Really great build! In the process of setting up my first tank and I find your sump completely inspiring. Going that extra mile in painting the pvc to look like copper was awesome. Thank you!

Tank turned 1 this passed weekend. It's had its ups and downs but the effort put in is worth it.

Currently everything is ticking over with only general maintenance needed. There is some gha which is covering some rocks as well as algae build up on the sand. Manually removing it with water changes.

Hoping as the tank matures it balances out and gets out if the ugly stage.

Haven't been doing much besides basic glass cleaning lately.

Decided to do a 40% water change today and will be doing a big water change yearly along with bi weekly 20% water changes.

Had the chance to move some stiff around, moved the 3 chalice frags to the right rock at the bottom as they killed some acros and started attacking the Monti it was under, moved some hammers and also some acro frags around.

Haven't been posting much, been busy with some other things, went on holiday and been busy with the little one.

Tank has been ticking over with only glass cleaning, things seem to be fine, parameters are in check except for nutrients which I haven't been testing because of the gha. Slowly removing as it grows and looking for more cleanup to help.

Cleaned the tank up and took a fts Friday shot.

I promised to post the good and bad of my reefing journey, so here is one of those bad times.

With the recent flooding that hit kzn, we were left with no water for a week as well as intermittent power for a couple of days. Backup batteries did run the return pump so atleast there was circulation and oxygen. The water situation however meant that I had to use rain water for RO top ups, the one day I did use some purified bottles water I lost 3 fish with some other fish looking in bad condition.

The dirty water combined with direct sunlight caused a massive gha outbreak which now covers everything. I guess this will take some time to sort out.

But all is not lost, there is hope and the cleanup and recovery will start. As we slowly get water back I've managed to make some RO water and used prime just incase. Alot of our local reefers has reached out we are helping each other where we can.

Only way is forward from here..

The flooding in South Africa looked absolutely horrendous and it's good to hear you're safe. I hope you manage to get back on track again and from your build thread, I'm certain you will. Your tank's a real inspiration and the painted copper pipes get me every time haha :)

It was really bad and we are lucky to not be badly affected.

So after the rough patch that we went through, we seem to be stabilizing.

In total I've lost 5 fish which looked like Brooklynella got them, the other fish seem to be stable and hoping it's on a recovery path.

There's been a few sps loses, but in hoping that has stopped.

Hopefully on the road to recovery..

Annual sump clean with a water change.

Ran without mechanical filteration for a while and dirt detritus really collected in the fuge, a good cleanup was needed..
