Amazon Booster Pumps vs BRS/Premium Aquatics

Hey guys, so I’m going to be upgrading my RODI system due to changing to well water however I’ll need a booster pump. Amazon Booster Pumps run about $80 where as BRS/Premium Aquatics range from about $120+.

Is there something I’m missing in the Amazon boosters vs the “reef” ones?

After looking at them I think the brs pump is better quality. BRS also has a better price for the aquatec pump than Amazon. How much better? Is it really worth the $20 for the piece of mind that you have the same pump most other reefers trust. I think so. That’s the one I have.

I have the aquatic life one from Amazon it’s $130 but I love the back flush it has and shut offs all built in! Works like a charm and saves your membrane and resin! The little extra coin for it saves you in the long run.

Thanks for the link. I've been looking at the BRS booster so this thread was nice to come across. I do not believe I am running my BRS 150 gpd with enough psi. s

Is that really rate capped at 100 gpd or does that matter? I think the rodi setup I have from BRS is 150 gpd. With regards to saving the membrane is that because of the auto back flush or because it is more efficient due to the higher PSI/boost? Or both?

I only have a 75gpd membrane in my system so I’m not sure if it’s capped or not. My pressure on the gauge is 80 and it holds perfectly. The back flush saves your membrane! The first 1/2 gallon or so goes directly into the drain then it switches back the membrane to get the tds creep out of the system.

Thanks. Appreciate the info / confirmation. I just added it to my list. There are two models and one is rated between 150 - 200 gpd so that is what I'll go with.

Thanks for the responses and reccomendations. I think I may just go the Aquatic Life route. Looking at other Amazon ones, many “feature” a copper motor but it’s hard telling if the water actually comes in contact with it.

Side note, this is SO annoying to me! I'm thinking Amazon must have worked out some deal where just typing Amazon automagically insert a link. I don't believe this is only on R2R, I think it's likely everywhere now.

Imagine being on a freshwater forum and discussing fish from the Amazon basin frequently! Sheesh!

I’ve had a BRS 150GPD water saver system since 2013 or so… I put a aquatec 8800 booster pump on it in 2015, for the same reason you want one!

It’s been fantastic; up to 95PSI operating pressure, I went from ~150gpd to ~240GPD, at 1-2ppm TDS…

The aquatec pump did, however start to wear out around 8-9 years in; and is barely producing an appreciable pressure boost anymore…

I’m thinking of switching to the RO buddy as well, mostly because it omits the RO system’s automatic shutoff valve… I’ve had to replace my ASO valve at least four times over the life of my RO…

They make replacement diaphragm and rebuild kits for the aquatec pumps. Its easy to do and costs significantly less than just buying a new pump. Aquatec makes the gold standard for rodi pumps. Ive got the 6800 and 8800 from 2005 that still work and havent needed to be rebuilt.

I’ve been heavily considering doing just this…

Do you know of a good supplier for 8800 parts? Every vendor I’ve found has been questionable at best, with minimal product info!

I have an Amazon Aquatec Im happy with. Has the Transformer and high pressure switch. What ever you get, buy a strainer to go before the pump, to keep well grit out of the pump. https://a.co/d/fvdI57f

I just plumbed my pump in after the sediment filters. It accomplishes the same thing with one less component to maintain and/or fail.
