Hi, I have a female anthias in a 75g tank. Have had her a few months after quarantine. She has done really well with no major issues. A month or so back she stopped eating and would only eat frozen Mysis.

Anyways, over the past few days to week, she has been swimming vertically. As soon as she stops moving she flips pointing up.

No real obvious sings of bloating or external changes. She will not eat much at all.

What are your thoughts?

may be a bladder or fluid issue but a video of at least 20 seconds under white light intensity will be of help

Struggling to get a video as she will swim (normally) and then hide. Here is a picture from earlier.

Does your tank have high flow or microbubbles?
Im glad to see no uronema but fish looks good otherwise. Any intimidation from other fish?

Some decent flow which I did turn up recently but not by a lot and she has never really struggled with flow.

I too thought about her tiring out but if she needs to swim she can quickly rotate and do so.

No obvious cause for micro bubbles.

No other intimidation. In fact she gets along with wrasses and yellow tang.

I’ll try in the morning again. But her respiratory rate does not appear to be increased to me. No gulping or skimming the surface.

Tough to see the respiration rate, but it looks o.k. The fish's demeanor is good overall. I do see some indication that the fish is negatively buoyant, it sinks when it isn't trying to keep itself up in the water column. That happens rarely, but when it does, it seems that the issue is an under-inflated swim bladder. There isn't really any treatment for that though, it isn't caused by an infectious disease, more of a mechanical issue where the tissue that supplies gas for the bladder just doesn't work as it should. I see this a lot in captive raised fish that have some developmental problem that prevents the swim bladder from inflating properly. However, this fish is wild caught, so that isn't the cause. Sorry I can't be of more help!
