Hi all, Mike here. I've had both fresh and salt tanks mostly FOWLR for many years w/ mixed results and have always wanted a reef. After a tank crash I almost quit for good. I let my tank run empty for 6-7 months before I found BRS TV and proceeded to watch every episode at least 2 times before I decided to try again. I now have a home made sump w/ aprox 30 gal on a 90 gal tank. I have protein skimmer, and just added bio sphere pellets 3 weeks ago. (please see reactor pic and let me know if this is normal/expected) Two weeks ago I received my new led lights :) / :( I bought from DSUNY. Let the D stand for DON'T buy from them. I did buy through amazon but no help there.... 1 led went out after two days. d sun y c. servc wanted me to buy a new one $50 through pay pal then send old one back to get credit. shipping would have been $80 each way. Sorry for the rant.

I look forward to any and all feed back on any subject. Adjusting the lighting is current task. My current paramaters are temp 78

mg was 300 now up at 2000, I think the reason for that is I added epsom salt to help w/ a newly added coral beauty who has 1 popped eye slightly hazed. My husband added the fish to the tank w/out qt. The Coral beauty also swims around quite rapidly. I've never had one before. is this normal for them??
I do need to start with kalkwasser but have not bought it yet. IMG_3561.JPG IMG_3560.JPG IMG_3590.JPG

Welcome aboard, Mike!

I've got a coral beauty, and gotta say - she doesn't sit still for long. Pretty much constantly on the go, she moves noticeably more quickly and nervously than either my flame angel or regal. (Especially in those moments when the flame decides to chase her!)

That having been said, and especially given the condition of her eye, her overall health will bear some watching. Do you have a quarantine tank set up? Does your husband know that if he wants to bring you additional gifts of fish, he should put them there next time? (And is he checking with you to make sure they're appropriate and desired fish before bringing them home?!)

I would like some more varieties of ocelaris and a couple anemonaes. Fairy wrasse, and eventually a mandarin but not sure if I'm up to keeping live food so for now I'll just admire them from afar.

Hi Bruce, Thanks for the insight on the c.b. behavior, I do have a 5 gal bio cube i use as a QT. and yes hubby knows I prefer to QT. the one eye is currently no more puffy or cloudier than it was a few days ago and is still just the one, so I think it will be ok, but will keep close tabs on it.

Welcome home, you will love it here!

Your coral beauty sounds I'll, a healthy, happy centrpyge angel should not dart around the tank, be "hazy", nor have cloudy or popped eyes. Can you start a thread in the disease forum with photos so we can help you?

It sounds like it may be afflicted by velvet and potentially other ailments.

Bristle worms are detritivores, and a valued member of my cleanup crew. That having been said, some can get large, they can overpopulate if overfed ... and those bristles are a bit like fibreglass insulation if they get into your fingers!
