Battery Backup

What are you all using for battery backup in in case of a power outage. The most my power goes out for is 6 to 8 hours. But I have heard horror stories of people losing tanks in just 4. I have a 180 gal saltwater tank with 30 gal in my sump. My tank is fish only. My pump takes 60 watts and each of my power heads take 6 watts. I was think of just hooking 2 power head heads up to a
CyberPower Intelligent LCD CP1500AVRLCD uninterruptible power supply (UPS. or a
Cyber Power PFC 1500VA LCD Sinewave Adaptive Intelligent UPS


I would run one power head in my tank and another in my sump just to move water and supply oxygen. I'm not worried about heating or cooling the tank because I keep the tank in my basement which is always around 65 top 75 degrees. Plus water holds heat and I could always wrap the tank in a thermal blanket.

I use the Ecotech battery backup on my DT. I also have a generator at the handy if things go for more than 4 hrs. or if it's hot or cold. UPS's are good, just not next to DT uncovered to keep salt out of. It's good a husbandry practice to have something to last at least 4-6 hrs. JMO

I need to supply 12 watts of power for about 8 hours, from my research you need just enough movement to break the service of the water.

I use the CyberPower but that only lasts 1 hour. I am hoping/ counting that I would see the power outage email notification at work. The ups makes beeping noise when an outage is on going. I am counting on hearing that at night before it's too late. I also do not have a lot of fish so oxygen generation is not as critical. ... I estimate I can go out without power for 8 hours....

I have a legit generator that runs on gas but it would be nice to have something automatic in case of an outage for my three display tanks even if all that it powers is a single powerhead on each

I have a battery backup that runs my return pump, I figured flow in both tank and sump is better then nothing. Should last 2-4hrs but I have a generator if I need it.

I'm planning to build a backup battery for my MP40. It's not difficult when you see what is inside the backup battery. I also have a propane generator (4000w) in case of a longer outage. I'm getting a power loss alarm so I'll know if the power goes out while I'm sleeping.

DIY back up - $70; propane generator - $275; power loss alarm $12.

I use an APC 1500VA with the external battery bank connected - can get me a couple of days before needing to worry about powering on a generator. For the battery backup plus the additional bank of batteries, they currently run a little over $300.

You plug that into the wall, it powers an air bubbler All the time...if the wall power stops it keeps going on the batteries.

I bought one but not planning on using it all the time, though was for nights with storms coming in....you know where the power could maybe go out for a few hours in the middle of the night. Some backup batteries for when hurricanes are headed towards us.

It's not perfect but it's a cheap back up.

You can chose larger (more Ah) but I believe it has to be a 12V.

back up power is cheap and easy. As long as you don't care about looks. I manage a battery store store where we sell every battery you can imagine. Figure out your watts used per hour. To find the amp hour of run time. I sold a guy a 800 watt inverter and 2 6volt golf cart batteries. He is able to run a full 125 gal reef tank for 10 hours. That's running everything.
