A month ago I got this frogfish. It ate live and frozen very well, up until about last week. Now I see that its eye is clouding over. Is she going blind? Is it something else? What should I do?

Also, in the last day or two she did not eat, so she was really thin. She now looks like she is swollen, and it seems like there is a hole behind her "walking" fins. Is that a problem? Also, when I put some live food in the tank, she did not even react.

In the red circle is the hole

I had her for about a month now but she measures about 4 inches so not really a baby anymore. Also upon further inspection it seems that the hole previously described has something to do with her breathing as whenever she exhales the hole opens

The hole doesn't look to be too much of a thing, is it on both sides? The blindness is concerning :(

Cloudy eye typically denotes some type of infection has set in. Usually, streptococcus... look here: http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2009/01/streptococcus-eye-infections.html

And here: https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/fa057

Erythromycin is the antibiotic of choice for this type of infection, but that first link lists some other options as well. I've never owned a frogfish before so I cannot say how well they handle antibiotics. Might want to double check that with someone on the predatory fish forum: https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/predatory-fish-discussion.772/

Only other thing I can think of is if flukes have reached his eyes. Look below for comparison:

Have you tried anything made with melaleuca? I have some Melafix by API made with melaleuca that says I can use it to treat open red sores, fin rot, EYE CLOUD, pop eye, body slime, moith fungus, and open body wounds. And I will check with the guys over at predator fish. Thanks for the help so far

The hold behind her walking fins is part of the way they swim. They can jet around if not stationary and actually swim. As far as the eyes go I would treat with antibiotics in a clean quarantine tank.

Melafix is an herbal remedy. There's no real science behind it, but I do know some folks who have used it with varying degrees of success. If it does work, it's probably because the tea tree extract you mentioned boosts the fish's natural immune system. One upside is that it is relatively reef safe.

Personally, I would put my money on erythromycin in a QT. That has worked for me on streptococcus in the past. Whatever you decide, don't wait too long. A fish with streptococcus can lose the eye or even worse, the infection can spread to his other eye. :(

The hole behind the pectoral fins are its opercular opening; the location is common in all anglerfishes.

As to cloudiness in the eyes, I think that it might be dinoflagellates, Amyloodinium. Marine velvet is a little hard to initially detect on frogfish as their encrusted exterior makes detection difficult. In advanced infestations, the eyes will be covered with the parasite lending to the cloudy appearance.

The only cure that has been really successful for me is chloroquine phosphate. I've only been able to get small quantities from this dude on eBay..
