Yes, this place really is amazing!!! In addition to the massive amount of information that has been accumulated and the excellent knowledge that the many members here are willing to readily share, IMO the best part is the really neat sense of community! :)

I’ve always heard leave the lights on a normal cycle but I’m sure it works either way. My thought is you’re going to have to build that photo algae eventually so why not do it all at once during the cycle?
Welcome!
By leaving the lights off you give bacteria a chance to build a biofilm on the rocks that makes it harder for algae to grow so you hopefully have less growth when the lights come on later. But either way will work of course
