I've been using Red Sea Coral Pro for the last year or so and after speaking with a couple of very successful reefers who have had great results with Seachem, I've decided it's time for a change. What's the safest way to change brands? Should it be gradually mixing the twobfor a period of time or just do a water change like I normally would with the new salt? I ask because I read a blog where I reefer claimed that his tank crashed due to an abrupt change in salt. Any ideas? Thanks

Ive switched back and forth so many times with no ill effect, Reef crystals to oceanic to coralife back to oceanic etc.

Of the 3 salts you listed, which one gave you the best results with coralife in particular? I've been contemplating between Seachem and Coralife but decided on Pnoyreefers suggestion but I'm open to suggestions.

I've switched twice--RC to Seachem and back. Each time, I've done a water change with half old brand and half new. For example, in my 40 breeder, I do a 10-gal. water change each week. So I would do 5 gal. old brand and 5 gal. new brand for each of two weeks, then do 100% new brand. I didn't see any negative effect on corals or fish each time. Basically, I think if you do some kind of "mixed water change" a couple of times before completing the switch, you'll see no effect on the tank system.

BTW, I didn't see any improvement with Seachem, which is why I switched back to RC. It's cheaper and more readily available.

Seachem reef is cheaper for me. I can get it for 31 a bucket locally. For me seachem reef has also been more consistent than RC. I currently use seachem reef, d&d, and tropic marin.

There is a guy in Spain on RC that has the sickest SPS collection I have ever seen, possibly over a 1000 pieces. Anyway he says he always changes his salt, trys them all. Something to the effect that each salt mix has it's bad qualities, therefore lessening the potential for long term build up of metals, minerals, etc. I switched from IO to RC with no negative effects, no mixing just changed salt with the regular water change.

i've changed salts from oceanic, reef crystals, oceanpure pro, d&d with no ill effects, the last 2 seem to have some brown crud buildup though..
