New Frags Coming Soon: What’s Your Coral Dip Routine?

I'll be getting a number of frags in a couple of days and looking at dips. Do you do, for example, a Brightwell MD dip and then an iodine dip. Or is it one or the other? (Considering Brightwell MD and Lugol's iodine, although iodine is the same as in the regular pharmacy?)

I mostly use KCl to dip everything nowadays. I also have CoralRx, Revive, Iodine, and hydrogen peroxide around but mostly just default to KCl since it is easy to prepare, seems to kill coral pests more or at least as effectively as other dips, is gentle on coral while not toxic to humans.

Yes I use the KCl sold by Alpha Chemicals on Amazon. Typical method is 2 tablespoons per gallon of saltwater (you can scale the recipe for a lower volume) and dip for 10 minutes. If you want an off the shelf product then PolypLab Reef Primer is a potassium salts-based dip. I also have that product laying around

Seems like a better idea to purchase food grade. I will do so after I run out of my current KCl supply!

I used this because that’s what the LFS recommended. Corals seem happy 8 days in. Edit - Smells like tea tree oil.

I used 2 tablespoons per gallon. Peppermint shrimp immediately jumped out of the water.

I have only used Revive and it seems to work well.

I have KCl, which I use most of the time, as well as TM Coral Clean, an iodine based dip. Between those two I’m pretty well covered, I think.

For Euphys i use normal dip from nyos and then iodine betadine dip for 15min and s honeybath for 20 mim.

For Corals that i get directly from store without shippement i use H2O2 Dip . Kills everything.

And i try to remove the Plug.

You can get a lifetime supply at Lowe’s or Home Depot. I bought a damaged bag for a few bucks and it works great, except that I have to crush the larger chunks to improve dissolving time.

They sell potassium chloride for water softener salt, 50 lb bags.

My two main ways of eliminating pests from frags...

We dip in a single dip the name of which I do not remember but will update this response with when I get home. We generally leave them in it for 5 to 8 minutes and circulate the water to help dislodge any pesky hitchhikers. I do try to keep watch in case anything shakes loose that we want to save. Limpets for instance I try to save and amphipods and a few other little things occasionally. Sometimes I am able to save them in sometimes not. I keep fresh water (saltwater but with no dip) on standby just for that purpose and before the corals go into my tank I run them through a three-stage rinse process to negate the chance of getting any of that into my system.

I’ve used revive for 3 years and it has worked well but open to hear about other options

Same, I've dipped and not dipped, I never notice a difference now I don't bother.

after the great flatworm infestation of 2025 I dip everything in revive.
