If you learn nothing more today that the above statement being false, it’s a good day of learning. :)

What creatures are in this tank? I’m skeptical that your ammonia values are real.

I detail the lack of death at any reasonable level (less than a few ppm) here:

Thank you for the article I will read it shortly, and probobly start up the Dossing again
Today’s readings without additional Ammonia Dos, Using Hanna Marine Master is .55 ppm, Ammonia 3.8 ppm Nitrate, so the cycle is working. And nitrate is moving up like I need

For Critters I have some snails, hermit crabs, Colt Coral, 2 bubble tip Anemones, lawnmower Bennie. 2-clown fish, 3-chromis, coral banded shrimp, chocolate tang, green star polyp, Feather duster, Red Coris Wrasse, Long tentacle anemone, Bicolor Seudo Chromes.

creatures that died,
Red Sea pulsating zxenia
2-Gold Headed Sleeper Gobie, one died, the other committed suicide. my wife thinks the Bennie was harassing them.

I am on hold getting more, waiting for tank to get clear and be more balanced.

How many mL of ammonium bicarbonate stock solution are you currently adding to your tank daily?

I am using Dr Tim’s ammonium Chloride solution
118 gallon total tank and sump, daily dose calls to 11.8ML day for 1st week, I have dosed 5.9 mL 3 times 12hrs apart, stopped after that, I was concerned about the amount the Amonia Increased. After reading article, I better understand the process and the part Ph plays in the toxicity of the Ammonia. Ph is reading 8.19 at this moment, which is 0.10 higher than Hanna measures it at. I plan to clean And calibrate the probe.
My goal is to clean up algae and green cloudy water, by raising my Zero Nitrate

I personally would not use Dr Tim’s for anything except cycling. It will deplete alk and may not be suitably pure for regular dosing. I recommend food grade ammonium bicarbonate.

Thank you, I was wondering about that based on reading your article.
Is there any opinions as to if any of my test results last night could cause issues? After the below tests I did a 10 gallon auto water change 118 total tank volume, Ammonia reading is now .63,
Midnight last night I felt a need to test Ammonia, I had dosed 2 more doses 5.9 ea total 11.8mL over the previous 24 Hours Last dose was 12 hrs before test, as I walked up to my tank I had a nearly dead Chromis floating on surface wiggling a little, then stuck on overflow, I quarantined him overnight, 3/4 new water, 1/3 tank water, we will see but he seems Ok today and ate. All others doing well
Test results, NH3 .78 ape NO2 11.5, temperature 77.1, ORP 254, Salinity 1.025, DKH 7.1, Phos .07,

Apex prob NH3 8.07, Marine Master test NH3 7.8
In talking to Hanna, the Marine Master Ph is no all that accurate, they have tool that is much more accurate. do you have an opinion on this, I will be calibrating my Alex prob today.

Wondering everyone’s fastest method for mixing ammonium bicarbonate? Seems to take a really long time for the water to turn clear for me. Thx

In ro/di at the recipe concentration?

A brief swirling is all mine takes. Maybe mine is finer particle size.

I use this one:

What container are you using to keep this ammonium bicarbonate solution? I have a 20 gallon tank and I only have 1 fish. I have been dosing nitrate but Im going to try dosing this method. Figure I'll half the solution so that I dont have so much since my tank is small. 500ml of water and 10g of bakers ammonia. Im going to dose this daily by hand.

Any container you can mostly or completely close is fine. I used a kefir bottle and later a glass milk jug, each of which I drilled a hole in the lid for the dosing tubing.

I use a larger glass container but i mix a liter. You could use a mason jar or anything with a tight lid since your dosing by hand

I mixed 250ml of distilled water with 5grams of ammonium bicarbonate. I am keeping it in a mason jar. Going to dose 1ml per day into my 20gallon tank. I've been dosing nitrate but this method should be better for the corals. I'll report back after a week or so.

Highly recommend Red Sea Reef Energy for their bottles alone :)
I've got several of different sizes I've cleaned out for my dosing. Benefit is the newer ones have the visible fluid level on the side!
Use soft air tube for the hose in the bottle, cut the nib off the top and use regular dosing tube.

Have an extra bottle laying around?

😅 With my three tanks all my bottles are currently being used for all my dosing requirements. When I have to order more and have a clean one I'll let you know!

@Randy Holmes-Farley Any reason not to use Ammonia hydroxide?

It will work, but drawbacks are getting food or USP grade, and getting a reliably known concentration since it is always a solution that may not be accurately known in concentration (and changes if evaporation takes place).
