I recently began battling red bugs and despite adding a couple dragonface pipefish to my DT, they don't seem to be diminishing. Last night I decided to dose interceptor, following the directions from Melev's reef. I just did a 30% water change, as directed, and put fresh carbon in the reactor. However, now my skimmer is going nuts. I have it open all the way and it's still spilling over with froth. For anyone who has dosed interceptor in the past, is this normal? Any advise with the skimmer beyond putting it up on a platform (don't have the clearance in my stand) or should I just pull the skimmer offline for a couple more hours?

Check out melev's reef, I believe he said to disconnect the airline on the skimmer while dosing. This way the interceptor will go through the skimmer. He says to run it through all your equipment.

Nevermind, didn't read the whole post.

yes. i ran my skimmer without bubbles for 36 hours. and it still produced alot of froth after attaching airline back, but i added 2 large bags of fresh carbon in my sump to help with removing chems.

that's normal from my exp. i actually don't change my water after a nuke i just pull the airline for 24hrs on the skimmer and then i put it back on with the skimmer cranked wide open until it calms down.... you could wait a few hours to put it back on and by then the carbon should have took the majority out so it would be okay again.... or a fellow member "reggie" mentioned hanging a bag of carbon in the skimmer to help with that problem.. i haven't tried it but it seems very logical...

OK, I dosed the interceptor yesterday evening and just reattached the air line about a half hour ago after the water change. It seems to be calming down a bit ovewr the past 15 minutes, but it's still really frothy. I'm gonna add a filter bag of carbon in addition to the reactor to see if that helps.

Anyone know how long I should wait before adding the CUC back into my DT? I know I have to do two more doses in the next couple weeks, so I don't plan on adding them until them, but I didn't find any info on Melev's site about how long to wait after the final dose before I can put them back in. It just says "once the water was safe"...

just keep your skimmer offline for a couple of hours then after that it should be fine

After adding the extra bag of carbon in the sump it seems to have calmed down. Any idea on returning the CUC?
