Is your ato tubing submerged? I'm just wondering about the need for the syphon break. I have a Tunze ATO and am curious if there's anything I'm overlooking. The tubing is several inches out of the water in my return pump chamber.
My ATO reservoir is above my sump by about a foot. The outlet for the tubing is about 6"-8" below the bottom of the reservoir. The directions specifically say not to install the reservoir higher than the outlet. 😁

Yep, that explains it. My reservoir is under the tank and the outlet is 4 ft above the reservoir. I wouldn't want the end of my ato tubing to get submerged but other than that no need for a syphon break.

Anti-siphon aren't a bad thing even if they're unnecessary in most situations.

They're a good safety measure. My outlet is several inches above the normal water level and the reservoir is under the tank but when I have the return pump turned off the outlet is below the water level. Not much chance of a siphon but even a small chance is enough to warrant the siphon break.

Good point. However, if the water level reaches where my ato tubing is located above the return pump chamber I'll have much bigger problems than a syphon back to my ato reservoir 🤣. My rope leak detector on the floor will be alerting me to that problem just before my wife puts me and my fish tank out of the house.

I've got the IceCap Small Algae Scrubber coming from TSA. It should be here Tuesday. I'm off this week so that'll give me time to get it set up and installed.

Well, the algae scrubber is showing up today! Only problem is I'm on my way to church. After church we're headed to the east side of town for early dinner with my side of the family followed by Trans Siberian Orchestra. A couple shots from last year:

Have a great day and a fantastic time at the concert. Try not to be yourself and ruin the show for everyone.

They were just here in Seattle. I didn't get to go but someone posted the entire Seattle show on Youtube, from about the same angle as your pictures here, so I was able to watch that a couple of days ago. I'm sure it's spectacular live. Have a great time.

Well, the IceCap Turf Scrubber is about 1/4" too wide for the spot in my sump. 🙄

Back to the drawing board I guess.

I've got one that I started designing on TinkerCAD. I'm going to revisit that one.

The original design I printed is working but it has a lot of light spill that was causing excessive algae growth in the sump and the Nems seemed to be suffering. Plus, I'm getting the N Clear Roller when it releases in January so I need to open the filter sock area back up for that.

Design pictures once I have something figured out.

Can't give a double reaction. Sorry the scrubber didn't fit BUT good that it will force you to get creative, redesign and create your own.

BTW - I am going to start studying FreeCAD.

TinkerCAD has some quirks but I enjoy it.

After researching a little, it appears that FreeCAD, while being harder to learn, is more robust and can do a lot more than TinkerCAD.

I was semi-shocked to see the pricing that Autodesk and others are charging now.

TinkerCAD is probably the most basic and beginner level CAD program available currently.

I'm likely going to sign my daughter up for a student Fusion account when the new Bambu gets here so she can learn on a better system. She's done some on TinkerCAD, but not much. She usually says "Dad, make this for me please..."

I've used FreeCAD but a long time ago and it is supposedly much improved since then. It is powerful but I found it tedious.

I've used TinkerCAD and it can do a lot but I find it difficult, not because it is but because my 'design' process doesn't mesh well with it.

I use Fusion 360 as it thinks more like I do. There is a free tier as long as you use it for home or casual use (no more than $1,000.00 of sales and only 10 projects can be loaded at a time-but you can store them offline and restore them so an extra step but not a real restriction).

I tried Blender, it made my head hurt.

There are online versions of some of the other big names that require you to make your designs public. I haven't tried any of them, just in case I design something useful someday.

The bottom line is try several, one or two of them will fit with your thought processes better than some of the others but they all work.

I'm not into trying to rip off companies but I do wish I had access to an .edu account. I have a close friend who runs all of IT for a school district just outside of Chicago. I am sure he would create an .edu email for me if I asked him but I do not want to go that route.

The new version of FreeCAD is supposed to be head and shoulders of what it was not long ago. The thing I like most about it is that it runs directly from one's HD and all files can be stored locally.

Based on what I learned, the free version of Fusion stores all your designs in its own cloud. One can download and store them but they lose some functionality. Additionally, it's my understanding that one does not own their own designs if using the free Fusion version. Also, based on what I gleaned, there are many, many people who feel like they were screwed over with the most recent changes that Autodesk implemented with Fusion.

Anyways, I'm not a fan of storing anything in someone else's cloud. Especially when they retain the right to access and use your work.

The whole SAAS model has denigrated in recent times. This is just my $.01 as I don't have enough cash to give $.02 worth.

In related news; I read an article from MIT about how they are developing an AI model to be able to run CAD. They have made some big advancements recently. The article was just from mid-November.
