It’s like everything is an expanded except for one part/section. Have you noticed this?

It’s too far gone.

Phyto isn’t necessary for healthy clams IME. It’s only a supplement.

Are the lights strong enough?

In my experience, clams that repeatedly get knocked down quickly die. They need to be kept as stationary as possible, especially initially.

Do you ever see parts of the mantle creasing or folding in?
That was my fear - it kept getting knocked over. That's why I printed the cage for it but I was afraid it was too late.

As far as mantle folding/pinching I think about 3 days ago I noticed a portion that looked pinched like maybe it had been bitten. That's when I printed the cage but it may have been too little too late.

For lights, Im running two Noopsyche 140W and an Orphek Or4. I've got the Noops turned down to 60% at peak after adding the Orphek. I'm not sure what my par is at th sandbed though.

Keep the clam as high as possible next time. Ensure it doesn’t excessively fall.

Any maxima clam can get PMD (pinched mantle disease)

I bought several from ORA, and I thought they’d be safe, but a few started developing it. I didn’t treat one and it died, but a few that had it got treatments and survived. I have one that needed 2 additional treatment about a week apart.

The clam will tell you based on the mantle folding appearance.

The treatment is simple: Get RO/DI water. Get the water to about 78-81F (I use a microwave for 5 seconds and stir a lot to equilibrate the temp)

Once temp is adequate, add the clam and set a timer for 30 min. Then add the clam back to the tank.

It’s easy and very effective.

But yeah, try to keep the clam from falling. I lost a lot of clams that way in the past. Something about them excessively falling over correlates to rapid death.

It’s possible it had symptoms longer than that. It could look very subtle initially.

I'll figure out a different stand that I can get the next one higher up. I printed a fancy cradle and a cage for it but it got knocked over everyday for about a month before I added the cage and cradle - often multiple times a day.

Cool little phenomenon - looks like my Blasto is dropping babies on the sand bed. I'm going to try to verify that it's not Polyp Bailout and if there's a skeleton I'll glue them to plugs!

From keeping blastos welso multiple years. Polyp bailout is so unlikely with blastos, they would rather die. They'll recess leaving skeleton exposed. And once things go back to happy, they'll reclaim skeleton is possible.

Just from what you are describing just sounds like babies dropping. Now I never kept merletties, so.. I dunno about them.

My Merletti experience has been the same. Very similar to Micromussa Lordhowensis as well. My Merletti have retracted into the skeleton and eventually, babies started growing outward from the remaining live polyps and filling in the bare skeleton.

Cool news, I designed a 3 frag sand rack thingy:

Printed the prototype yesterday and they came out good. A few modifications to make and it should be perfect for Acans and Zoas. I know @Nor'easter Reefer is planning on using them for hammers and torches potentially.

Well, I am currently in the dog house after what I bought this month and last month. I got the "look" and "talk".

I was very.... Not so penny pinching.

I could modify it to make it work better for Gonis. It's kind of a small footprint so they couldn't grow very large. :thinking-face:

Always keep it in mind for "just incase". It's nice having holders to work with.
