If I recall the story correctly. They started with this was a story and not real. Wasn’t it Olsen Wells? Gonna look it up
Yes, but if you missed that first 30 seconds of the broadcast you may have thought it was real.

As adults we can look back at our early childhood. Each generation are represented here on R2R. What book do you have the fondest memory of? Mine is Where The Red Fern Grows. Went to school in the early 70's
Man after my own heart! As soon as I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought Where The Red Fern Grows as well, I was in school in the 80’s!

So I'm going to admit something here, I live in the Seattle area and am a life long big game hunter and some here have heard some of my hunting stories of horse back bear hunts, and others. I'm a believer in Sasquatch. Many people have no idea how vast our Pacific Northwest really is. I will give you two examples that may make you think twice. Remember we maybe talking about a highly intelligent creature here. I was on a dear hunt and had a large herd of elk cross the road in front of me less than 50 yards away. The matriarch cow stood guard on the road until the last elk crossed. I ran up to where they entered the woods in an effort to sharpen my knowledge of sound and visual. Nothing not a sound not any movement. They disappeared. There were at least 15 elk in the heard. I am known for my ability to spot game others have missed or just can't see no matter how hard they try. I came to a clear cut one morning before day break and sat behind a log waiting for shootable light. Imagine 8 football fields long and 400 yards wide. I'm there for two hours after shootable light. There was little cover, stumps were maybe 3 feet high and brush was maybe two feet. I was on the top looking down. I glassed every inch for the two hours taking time here and there to just use my eyes. Then there it was 150-200 yards a doe decided I wasn't a threat and went back to eating. She had been there the whole time. We see movement, and if an animal freezes we have a hard time seeing them. When I'm hunting I'm looking for an ear, tail or slight movement to give the animals away. They are so well camouflaged. Iv walked up on bull elk bedded down in thick nasty jack furs and was so close when they broke away I can feel the ground pounding though my feet as they jump up and run. There horns sounds like baseball bats hitting the trees and they threw their heads back and run. I never saw them though. I must have been feet from them. So yes I think it's possible they are real.

I never really had a favorite book once i was old enough to read. My mom is a huge reader and she bought us subscriptions to the Walt Disney books and alot of the Golden books as a grade schooler. Once I started High school I read alot of horror and fantasy novels. Tolkien, Howard,Poe etc. Later it was King and Lovecraft. Alot of the books mentioned are bringing back alot of memories.
LOVECRAFT!!!! The absolute BEST horror writer. Period. Better than King. Better than Poe. I've read almost all his books. The Case of Charles Dexter Ward really scared me!

Generation X'er here born in '71

One of my favorites when I was a kid. I still have my childhood copy!

Lord of the Flies! Did anyone mention that yet? That's a great book!

Never read that. I have the audible version but it's still queued.

Does anyone else here find the movies disappointing after reading the book? The shining comes to mind. In the book there was always this boiler that he needed to tend to that kept creeping into his thoughts. And then the animal hedges vs the maze in the movie. I guess it's just not possible to convey people's thoughts on the screen. I've really gotten into audio books several years ago as long as a good narrator is reading. I've never been able to get the characters to separate in my head, different voices and such but a good narrator can do that for me.
I hear ya. The ONLY adaptation I truly enjoyed was LOTR. They did a REALLY good job. But they did veer from the books a tad. Not much, but it was noticeable.

I just bought this book last week!

I'm a late 90s kid, and my absolute favorite books growing up (and to this day) are the Harry Potter books.
So if you like that book, summer of the monkey's is written by the same author and same family situations same living on the river bottom but is more of a funny book.

While I was going through radiation therapy, I started reading those (2000 or so). Great books.
