I’ve had this new fish in an observation tank for 3 weeks. Today I notice what I believe is fin rot, the lips appear discolored, and one eye is beginning to cloud.

Salinity was 1.026, but I realized that my ammonia was 0.50 so I did a large 50-60% water change to reduce it.

The fish is active and eats aggressively.

Thoughts on treating with KanaPlex or NeoPlex?

Observational quarantine is always very risky - diseases can be difficult to identify, so it is best to proactively treat for the common ones.

If this fish is by itself, you can rule out tankmate aggression. IMO - it has the signs of a fluke infection, I would treat for that first. It should still get an anti-protozoan treatment.

Here is our quarantine protocol:

Additionally, though it's hard to see, It does not look like your sponge filter is getting a lot of air through it (though it may just be the picture). Agree with Prazipro/antiprotozoan QT protocol - and that requires increased oxygenation. Best of luck with your fish - keep us updated.

Observation quarantine ates valuable treatment time. Three weeks have gone by and what may be fin rot has emerged and going to treatment would/may have prevented this. Kanamyacin is not the answer but rather neomyacin (seachem neoplex). Monitor ammonia with a reliable test kit and assure water quality is good which can lead to fin rot.

Agree - Observation QT is very suboptimal and often disease that is present is silently multiplying during this time. I am curious as to the role for neomycin vs kanamycin? Since it is a bit unclear - this might be one of those cases for treating with an antibiotic as well as prazipro together. Again - the odd issue here to me is that there were no new additions and the rest of the fish aren't sick - which still leads me to agree with your thoughts that bullying is playing a role.

They both treat gram negative bacteria , focusing on this industry in neomycin which is suggested direct for potential infection whereas neomycin is a little less direct as it also treats gram positive infections. Its considered safer for the biological system in the tank and would be more effective for issues like dropsy, superficial wounds. pop-eye, and septicemia.
