Why are they considered so hard to keep?

It's my understanding they have to be fed multiple times a day. This is why the care level is difficult. Plus its difficult getting them to eat prepared foods, usually have to feed live food in order to get them to eat

Aside from multiple feedings they need peaceful tank mates. They also only flash when they are stressed out. This is from reading I've done online.

Flashing Tiles are very hard to keep.... it's not just the feeding, I mean they are like most tilefish... but often when they are brought in, they are tormented by humans for their popular flashing reaction. Just think of it as a pufferfish that has inflated many times... not happy, probably will die.

If you really want a flashing tile, my suggestion would be to start a tank... let it establish for 6+ months, and have the tilefish be the only fish you keep in it. :)

Tilefish are hard to get eating at first, but after that they are pretty hardy fish. I got my purple tilefish from bluezooaquatics. He came in pretty healthy. Took him about a week to start eating.

Comparing a purple to a flashing is like comparing a ref firefish to a helfrichi IMO.

Same fish, but two totally different fish nah mean bruh?

I mean what's so different about the helfrichi? Not really anything besides looks and price.

Helfrichi's are deepwater, the purple aren't. So they are actually quite different.

The tilefish are like some of the harder to keep wrasses in that they take a while to eat prepared, and need multiple small meals a day like anthias.

No worries, I was just clarifying the differences. That way it can help other people understand why they go for more money. It isn't the color that makes them more expensive, it is that divers have to use air tanks and dive deeper to catch the helfrichi vs. free-diving/snorkeling to catch the regular ones.
