Update: the past week I've been noticing that my socks in the sump have been getting blocked after a couple days use. I suspect it's bacterial as the socks aren't really dirty, but will overflow.

From the pictures above, nothing out of the ordinary showing, no bacterial bloom in the water.

Yes, the socks are cleaned and dried before use.

I'll keep a eye on it going forward.

There is still so much we don't understand about reef tanks I think.

I am currently running a HOB Reef Octopus skimmer (have an in sump but no needlewheel for it) and really only the cup gets dirty. I haven't cleaned the skimmer cup in months n months and I emptied it two days ago as I do. Give it a good spray outside (i skim pretty dry so it SMELLS once you remove the cap) and I replaced it.

I put the cup at the same height, but today it decides to skim very wet, so I will have to actually clean o_O the cup to get it back to normal.

The buildup post spray cleaning looks the same as any other time, but this time the pattern of the buildup (I guess) was "super wet skim".

Mysteries of the reef hobby.

Some skimmers are finicky. Mine will act up if the needle wheel gets dirty.

You aren't trying to wear the socks before you put them in your sump, are you? :p

20 gallon water change done. Vacuumed the sand bed, fed the fish. Corals looking good.

Hoping to go coral shopping tomorrow. Looking for just a couple pieces.

New purple staghorn:

Yes I have a little GHA growing on the frag racks. Expected with new plastics. The snails have been having a ball eating this stuff!

Has it try spreading in your tank?
I have read that they bail out polyps and spread. Makes me nervous.

No, no signs of it. I don't expect it to do that either.
