i don;t have a drill press, just a cordless and a corded drill. the cordless has a clutch on it to vary to the speed/torque. i'm going to use leftovers from my stand build to make a piece of wood to set the acrylic in to keep it from spinning on me when trying to drill it. i'm going to look for a unibit also.

i think i've decided to go with a back row with an 8, 6, and 4 inch rack, and a front row of 4, 2, and 2 (pretty much 1/3 will be 4 inches 2/3 will be 2 inches)

with these heights ill be able to use an assorment of frags, with a lot of low areas for zoas/acan.

Still trying to decide on the last two rack heights. So far I have a 6", 2 4", and a 2" racks made. Any input?

I have legs cut for an 8" and another 6" rack. I think this is what I'm going with. If I don't like it I can always cut them down. At work now going to finish drilling the acrylic when I get home.

Never had any problems with a hole saw so far but ill have to try a step bit next time.

I imagine a Forstner bit would do the trick as well, or even a brad point drill bit - I'd use whatever was easier to come by. If you can't find the size any other way, I've heard of people having success drilling with a short section of copper pipe, sharpened appropriately at one end.

You can find a cheap drill press for $60

A drill press is really handy, but is a $60-$70 press worth it? I can only imagine it would lean and wobble worse than me. ;)

I found a 1/2 inch plasdrill bit which is made for drilling acrylic. Works great in a drill with a clutch. Not so good without one.

Yea a drill press would make it a whole lot easier, I wish I still had one. That thing was just too heavy to keep moving!

I think its looks good! Make sure to show finished product!! I Love DIY projects too. Much better than running somewhere and buying it already made IMO.

Ya I figured I could buy drill press, bit, and pre cut acrylic for around $100, same price as 1 professional one. Made 4 racks with the perfect plug spacing.

wow, very nice! i used scraps from tap plastics to create mine. my friend's drill machine helped greatly!
